I''m considering two different stones and am unsure which one to get.

Diamond 1)
1.36ct, G, VS1 (a slightly whiter G to my eye)
7.10x7.15x4.39
Depth 61.6, Table 56
Crown 35, Pavillion 40.8
Polish, Symmetry - excellent
Cut: excellent
Fluor: none
Girdle: medium
Culet: none
Eye clean - inclusions are pinpoint feathers
HCA score 1.5: light, fire, scint excellent; spread: very good
Graphs to exellent range by GIA and ideal by AGS

Diamond 2)
1.47ct, G, VS2
7.17x7.29x4.47
Depth 61.8, Table 59
Crown 35, Pavillion 40.6
Polish: esc, Symmetry: very good
Fluor: none
Cut: very good
Girdle: medium
Culet: none
Eye clean: pinpoint feathers on top, larger inclusion on girdle that "can be hidden with a setting"
HCA score: 1.4, light, fire, scint excellent, spread: very good
Graphs to excellent range by GIA, just outside of AGS ideal

Seems to me to be a trade-off of size vs. cut vs. VS1 or 2. Prices are within $800 of each other (larger one more).
I think the smaller one is slightly whiter/more brilliant, but I obviously wouldn''t mind a larger stone if things were equal - How important is a 1.36 vs. 1.47ct difference? Are there good reference websites to compare relatively small differences in size?

Which one would you select?

it''s a slightly whiter G to your eye, but you haven''t seen them?

I really like #1. That would be my pick.

.....I''m not sure that .11ct would be very noticable to the eye, especially once set. I would have no problem with the VS2 and I''m usually all about bigger, BUT, the difference in size isn''t much and the fact that you say the first one is whiter and more brillant is tough to overlook. I personally like the smaller table on the first stone, I like the look of smaller tables. Also nice that the first one falls in the AGS ideal range also. Hmmmmmm. Any way to get IS images of these stones????

i''ve seen them but the lucky lady has not. - that''s why i''m asking about the measurements so she can have an idea. I understand it''s the diamond, not the accompanying papers that i''m looking for, but she has the numbers and my somewhat novice eye to go on. What do people think would be reasonable prices for these stones?

There are a number of differences that the HCA cannot pick up.

1. Diameter: stone 1 has a much smaller difference between min and max diameter, which is at the foundation of symmetry.

2. Smallest diameter of the heaviest stone is almost the same as the diameter of the lighter stone, so the extra weight does not really show face-up.

3. Although you will not see the difference between VG and EX symmetry, it is nice to know that stone 1 has received somewhat better attention in this field.

When choosing between these two diamonds, my choice would be for no. 1.

Live long,

Stone 1 for the3 excellent symmetry rating.

I like stone one.

Stone two''s table is slightly larger than I would like and the diameter measurements are more out of round than I would like to see on a well cut stone.

Here''s a chart to give you an idea of size difference...it''s not much of a difference visually.

Ditto on 1.
