Hi all. We''re going to look at a few stones today and make a decision. Is it important to look at them through the idealscope view? I don''t even know if this jeweler (although legendary in his honesty) has one. I''ve never seen one this except for on this board. I did have a jeweler put 2 diamonds in a little v of white paper to show me how white they were! come on, now.

In my search in jewelry stores in my area, which is Louisiana, I have only seen one idealscope and that is at Sams Club for their Regal cut diamonds. Of course, I bought my diamonds at WF, so yes, they had an idealscope.

The idealscope allows you to see how much "leakage" the diamond has. Of course, you want as much light being reflect back to you. Also, dont confuse, BRIGHTNESS of a stone with FIRE AND SCINTILLATION, they are not the same. But, a well cut ideally proportion round diamond should exhibit all the three of the above BOLD printed words.

Read this to help you with these 3 vital items: http://diamonds.pricescope.com/

The videos at GOG will help as well: http://www.goodoldgold.com/video/ The first 3 videos.

Yes, jewelers use the white paper demonstration to demonstrate how WHITE the stone faces up, which is fine, because this what you will see when you look at a diamond. This is fine, but I would suggest that the jeweler put a color range in this from D/E to whatever color you will accept. Also, remember, diamonds are graded for color face down, not face up.

Good Luck

Well, if you're looking for a round, unless it's an AGS0, I personally would want an idealscope.

If it's a fancy cut, and it looks amazing to your eyes, it would be less important to me. I don't know why, but that's just me. I didn't get an idealscope image before we bought my cushion because it was obvious how much nicer it was than any other cushion I had seen. So it was silly for me to try and get an IS when my eyes told me it was the nicest one around.

Did you know you can buy your own idealscope very cheaply online? If I were set to buy a round from a B&M I would do that personally....
