hello all.

I would really appreciate some feedback on this large purchase I am about to make.

I have decided on 1.5 round solitaire. I have gone to 3 different local jewelers and picked 3 stones.

All are GIA cert

#1 -- #2 -- #3
1.50 -- 1.51 -- 1.51
I si1 -- I vs2 -- I vs2
7.31x7.33x4.5 -- 7.38x7.42x4.42 -- 7.44x7.48x4.46
cut ex -- vg -- ex
polish vg -- ex -- ex
sym ex -- vg -- ex

HCA 3.9 -- 1.9 -- 2.6

depth 61.5% -- 59.8% -- 60%
table 60% -- 61% -- 60%
crown
angle 33 degrees -- 32.5 degrees -- 33 degrees
pavillion
angle 41.4 degrees -- 40.8 degrees -- 41.2 degrees
culet 0 -- 0 -- 0
flor none -- none -- none

price 8550(#1) -- 9615(#2) -- asking 10500, but i am sure they will drop to 10.(#3)

Any and all suggestions would be much appreciated. I must make a decison soon.

Thanks again

Welcome Jay!

What are you looking for exactly, the best cut diamond you can get? I would be most interested in 2 and 3. They have larger tables so just to be sure, have you looked at any with a smaller table, say around 55 - 58%? Also if you could get the star and lower girdle facet percentages for those 2 diamonds ( these will be on the grading report diamond diagram) that would be helpful too.

Ditto Lorelei.

i will call tomorrow and obtain the star and lower girdle % tomorrow.

I am looking for a 1.5 round gia certified stone. I guess I am concerned with who is giving the fairest price along with best value.

I know she will be happy with either becasue they are both very nice. I just wanted some professional input.

If anyone has suggestions I would love to hear them

Ok sounds fine, by the way we aren''t professionals, just consumers.

After speaking with the vendor, she mentioned another stone she had on hand that I should look at.

it is a 1.53 GIA round I vs2 (7.42x7.45x4.58) HCA score 2.2

depth 61.6%, table 56%, crown angle 35 degrees, pavillion angle 41 degrees, and no culet.
cut, polish, and sym all excellent.

$9400.

based on this information, is this stone comparable or better than any of the previously listed?

Promising, but again what is the star and lower girdle facet number?

Although some info is missing, I would be down to #2 and #4, with #4 looking a little better.

Please take into account that very close cut grade parameters are judged by machines in the laboratory and although this can be measured, it is extremely difficult for the human eye to see.

The important thing here is the angle combo, this is what we call bordering on " steep deep", light leakage can sometimes be the result of these angles so check it out very carefully away from the store lights if you can and look for any dead, dull areas or a dark ring around the table. This is really the best you can do, don't worry too much about the star and lower girdle facets- the important thing here is how the diamond looks to you in person as we can't get images or much info, all we can do is guide you towards how to evaluate the diamond yourself. Depending on GIA rounding of the crown and pavilion angles there is a chance the diamond could be perfectly fine, or it could show leakage depending on what the angles actually are. You could order an Idealscope if you wish, this very useful tool will help you determine if there is light leakage.
