So im about two months away from asking my girlfriend of 8 years to marry me and im in a dilemma. First I decided on the Tiffany Novo .91 ct weight, vvs2 I color. My girlfriend after her pregnancy has since grew out of her previous ring I gave her from high school which is a size 7. Her ring can fit but with a lot of effort to the point where its very uncomfortable. So my question is what size would you recommend I size it? I know it can be resized after but I want to try to get it right the first time since this will be a total surprise for her.

And also based on what I have seen here most people visually see the Novo being larger than it really is but seeing the size of my girlfriends finger do you think it would look really small? when looking at it in Tiffany''s they showed it to me on a couple of the sales ladies fingers but no one was above a 7 size. My budget is in this ring size and I saw a very small difference if I moved up 10 points to an actual carat. Right now I have a deposit on the ring and I know thats what I want unless someone puts some light on my situation. Pics would be great too if possible.

Hi Mark,

I would say about a 7 1/2 should work for her on the size.

Now, you mentioned this is what you wanted unless someone shed some light. If you''ve been reading here, are you aware you can get a great cut cushion for less? That would allow you to go bigger on the stone. What you''re looking at is a lovely size, but I don''t know too many gals who would object to bigger.

I would recommend looking at GOG''s cushion videos. They carry an outstanding line of cushions. See what you think. They can also custom make a setting for you. However if you really want a Tiffany, please disregard!

OP, if you want a Tiffany Novo, please know that the Novo is a patented cut, in other words you will not find it anywhere else. So if you want a cushion, you have a choice between the Novo and other cushions.

I would not worry at all about .9 looking too small on her. I hope someone can show you pictures but that's plenty of size for a size 7 or 7 1/2 finger. Good luck with your decision. Please post pictures of the Novo if you get it or of your final choice.

Do you want the Tiffany Novo or something like it? If you get the Novo, you''re going to be paying a big premium for just the Tiffany name. If she just likes the look, then you can get a similiar ring with a bigger/better stone for cheaper.

I really do love the Nova.

I looked at Novo''s and I also thought they faced up smaller than some other cuts out there. It is an awesome setting though. My buddy has a round brilliant in a Novo setting (replica from a local jeweler who did a great job) and it looks great.

If you wanted to go up in size to get to the 1ct mark, I think the obvious move is dropping from vvs to vs2 (unless that clarity grade is important to you or her). That might save some bucks, but I''m sure the .09 ct increase cost you b/c it puts you over the magic # of 1ct.

It will look awesome no matter what you do. The .09 cts prob won''t face-up any larger, but, on the other hand, you won''t see a difference b/w a vvs and a vs. So essentially, you can pick which one you''d like to pay for, even though you''re not going to get a visible improvement from either. Diamond shopping...
