I finally decided on the diamond (details later once it''s a certainty!) so today I went out shopping for a setting.

The first small jewelry store I went to didn''t have much selection or service. There is a Shane Co in my area and I decided to drive by just to have a look at settings. They do have a very nice selection of settings on the showroom floor and after working with the salesperson for a while I found one that is almost right
except that it feels too wide for my finger. Not the fact that it was the wrong size, but that the sides seem to stick out to accomodate the side diamonds and the way that feels between my fingers just wasn''t what I wanted. When I close my fingers the ring would tilt instead of staying straight

So if I wanted to get a yellow gold ring with a six prong platinum head with three small (0.1) round diamonds in a shared prong setting on either side (total of six) so that it makes a slight arch - does this mean I''m going to have to go custom to get the arch the right height so it doesn''t stick out beyond the sides of my finger?

it shouldn''t do that when the ring is properly sized to your finger. it may have to be a job customized to you if you have very small fingers, but it''s not a full custom job.
