First, I want to thank everyone who participates on Pscope because I have learned an incredible amount from reading through your posts. I am looking to buy an engagement ring and the future mrs. (hopefully) is in love with the ritani "Platinum "Royal Crown" squared shank semi-mount to accommodate round diamond center and graduating round diamonds. 1RD1169AA (ritani.com)"

The setting is expensive for us and I''d rather focus on the stone, but she hasn''t seen anything else close to catching her eye. If anyone knows of a like setting that would be great. I want to get her this ring because I know that it is the one she likes most. I''ll spend the extra if I can''t find it elsewhere becuase she will be wearing it everyday and it''s important that she loves it to me. If I go with this setting where should I look for the loose diamond. I have seen suggestions on Pscope, but just thought I''d ask again because I think I''ll have to get the diamond somewhere other than a store that carries the setting. Thank you for any advice or help you can give me, it is much appreciated.

Thought I''d mention I am looking for around 1 carat. It is big enough that the sidestones don''t detract from it as I have seen on other rings of the similar setting. Thanks!

Hi newguy and welcome

What type of budget do you have for your stone?

I''d also recommend getting the Ritani setting if that''s the one she loves and wants. She may be disappointed with something *similar*..

I am thinking right now that I will probably have to go somewhere around $8,000 - $8,500 less the the $3,300 for the setting to get a decent center stone. Ideally I would like to be around $7,000 - $7,500 but I don''t think that is going to happen as of right now to get an even ok center stone. The local jewelry store has an E color SI2 for about $9,000 in the setting right now. Will be able to get more details on the stone this weekend hopefully as they are having the ring shipped in for me to get a better look at. Let me know what you think.

you have a very nice budget for a stone and should be able to find something.

here's one from Whiteflash...link to stone that's $6800. Go to the home page and enter your critera for you stone and a whole bunch of stones and prices will pop up. I think you'll be surprised at the pricing.

i would also suggest contacting Pearlmans Jewelers. they carry Ritani and even though he doesn't list stones on his site he can find you what you want. I just purchased a stone from him and am looking at a ritani setting myself.

That's a GREAT stone MrsSalvo! I'd snatch that up in a heartbeat! I second the recommendation to contact Pearlman's about the setting. They can set a diamond purchased at Whiteflash. It would be gorgeous!

This might be another great stone option if it's eyeclean (you can call whiteflash and ask them) -- it's a 1.198 carat H SI2 for $6250: http://www.whiteflash.com/hearts_arrows/A-Cut-Above-H-A-cut-diamond-2436439.htm

Ritani uses mostly G-H stones in their settings, I think...so a G or H center would work great!

I did the same thing you''re looking to do, bought a stone online and then took it to a jewler that sells Ritani for the setting. My only advise to go to all of the Ritani dealers in your area and make them compete for your business. If you''re lucky they''ll be at least 3-4 Ritani dealers in your area.

Tell them you''re going to the other places. I was able to find the Ritani setting in Platinum at a Bailey Banks and Biddle (during their semi annual sale) got the sale price quoted in writing I took that to an independent jeweler who couldn''t believe the price but saw it documented and beat that price on the spot. They took responsibility for sending my stone to Ritani and Ritani set it. The only negative aspect is that you are not covered if the stone chips or is damaged when set. But that''s the case for most jewelers if that happens when they set a stone they didn''t sell you.

I wouldn''t recommend buying the Ritani setting from BB&B, however they helped me save money, close to $600 without having to do a lot of negotiating.

Hope it helps, good luck finding a stone, I don''t know what you''re looking for, but Good Old Gold treated me really well.

newguy, you might ask pearlmans about this. he might cover the stone if you purchase it from him and he''d send it to Ritani to be set. I have also found his prices to be lower than BB&B and a couple other vendors i visited.
