I''m new on this site, and am so happy I found it!

My boyfriend and I have been looking for some time now, and I''m getting nitpicky on the design of my ring.

We are planning on a 3.3-3.6 ct. cushion cut on a 2-2.2mm pave band.
The one setting I love has a classic four prong mount.

I think I want a basket setting with double prong (Very Harry Winston esque), but can''t seem to decide.

What are your thoughts?

oooo, 3 carat cushion...yummy!!

have you see Leon Mege''s website? he''s got some of the most amazing settings for cushions, including the the harry winstonesque you''re considering...

If you choose a basket setting with a stone that large your wedding band will never fit flush. REALLY think about that beforehand. TRY ON stones that size with basket settings & see how wedding bands fit. You will *not* like it.

Maybe you''re okay with wearing your e-ring on your other hand?

good point of the setting sitting flush deco. silverlily has a 3 carat cushion in the ritani 4 prong basket, which would allow for a flush wedding band if you like the setting...

i just tried searching her ring and for some reason the search function won't work for me but maybe i can try again later..

oh... that''s a really good point.
I''m not planning to wear my engagement ring on the opposite side.

I''ve never tried on a stone that size in a basket setting. They''ve only been in classic four prongs thus far.
I will definitely consider that though.

I did check out Leon Mege''s website - amazing stuff.

Thanks much!

ooh. that''s stunning.

Are the Ritani settings 1.5mm or 2mm? My boyfriend wants to get the thinner one... much like the one at Cellini, but without the halo.
I think the thinner band will make the center stone look larger, but am afraid it won''t be substantial enough for the large stone.

Thoughts?

(btw... these threads are fun!)

thanks PSadmin

imfabareyou, Ritani is known for very high quality and durable rings. they really do have it perfected when it come''s to thin pave settings IMO and for designer rings are fairly reasonably priced. we never here of folks having problems with Ritani''s pave on here. I wouldn''t hesitate to purchase a Ritani setting if there was one I wanted. you can do a search here on Ritani and read feedback from Ritani owners.

Thanks! I did go through the Ritani website. Though the rings are absolutely beautiful, the are not exactly the style I am looking for.

We''re actually getting the ring made through a family friend, as it is much more economical for him.
At this point, it''s just a matter of me making up my mind and picking out the setting.

I have a picture in my head of what I am looking for, but have not actually seen it in person or photographs yet!

well, a lot of jewelers won''t go below 2mm when doing custom work for the durability reasons. I always get a little nervous when folks say they are using a family friend but if you''ve seen the quality of rings they make and are happy with it than that is all that matters. you might take a few pictures of all the rings you like to them and see if they can come up with something by putting all the pieces together for you. Do be sure to try on lots of rings in the style you are after b/c custom can be wonderful but without knowing exactly what you are getting can easily lead to disappointment in the final product.

I just got back from the jewelry store. He''s actually not a family friend, but my bf''s uncle.

He got a new setting in that is gorgeous. It''s a three-sided pave setting - 2.4mm, with a mathing band.
It has a four prong head on it, but I requested that they switch to a basket setting...

We''ll see how it goes. Will send pics *when* it happens.

Thanks all!

Just be careful about 3 sided pave...that can be a problem if worn with a wedding band.

Please come back with pictures! We''d love to see the finished ring!

Yikes ... three-sided pave cannot be worn side by side w/o a solid metal spacer between them! Those little diamonds will CHEW EACH OTHER UP. (Diamonds cut other diamonds yanno).

Just a heads up!

YES! Be careful! And to answer the Q about Ritani, the endless love setting is about 1.7mm wide. I LOVE mine, although my stone is a lot smaller than the one you are considering! So considerably thinner than the one that your jeweler now has for you.

Thanks for the feedback! I never thought about the little diamonds scratching each other.
After reading the posts, I immediately had to call his uncle... he doesn''t think I should be too concerned about the little diamonds as they do not touch each other too much.

It''s still concering though. I think I have to go in and look at the set again.

I found this ring on Leon Mege''s website. It''s the exact setting I''m looking for and pulled it up as my avatar.

oh I LOVE that Leon ring in your avatar! Perfection!
