I had a couple questions if anyone would be kind enough to answer:

1) I just received my ring from GoG that came with Jonathan's appraisal, and I was wondering do I need to get it appraised again at a local appraiser?

2) Also, after proposing to my gf, do I give her all the documents that was sent with my ring, including the diamond AGS certificates and GoG's appraisal of the ring?

3) When do I insure the ring and how?

4) Do I pay for the ring's insurance or does she? (Dumb question?)
Thanks all in advance and have a wonderful weekend :)

1) I just received my ring from GoG that came with Jonathan's appraisal, and I was wondering do I need to get it appraised again at a local appraiser? That is up to your comfort level, I would think Jonathan's appraisal would be sufficient for insurance purposes. However a very detailed appraisal can be very useful should the worst happen and the diamond gets broken or chipped. That gives you a good case in order to replace like with like i.e a superideal hearts and arrows stone as a pose to having to use the jeweller the insurers suggest, this isn't always the case of course, but the more info you have on your diamond the better. But it is a personal choice, some here feel confident enough when buying from the well known vendors such as GOG that they don't need a separate appraisal, so it is up to you.

2) Also, after proposing to my gf, do I give her all the documents that was sent with my ring, including the diamond AGS certificates and GoG's appraisal of the ring? That again is up to you.

3) When do I insure the ring and how? Get insurance ready for as soon as you receive the ring, try -

www.jewelersmutual.com or www.chubb.com

Thanks all in advance and have a wonderful weekend :)

I''d insure the ring as soon as possible!! I don''t live in the US so I''ll let other PS-ers give you more advice on who they''ve used to insure their rings or other jewellery with.

You may find that your insurer asks for a third party appraisal for replacement value. I''m guessing you got a better deal with GOG than at a Maul Jewellers so you may decide to either insure it based on the higher value or use the price you actually paid. If you do the latter, then read the terms and conditions carefully to make sure that if something happened and you did need to replace it, that they won''t just hand you their idea of an ''equivalent ring'' with a blahhhh stone.

Whether you hand all the paperwork over really depends on your fiancee. You may decide to hold on to the paperwork for now if you need it for insurance or hand it over if she''s keen to admire the crown and pavillion angles and all the fantastic plots you get from GOG?!

The gog "appraisal" is more than enough for insurance so if your comfort level is high enough with it then you don''t need more at this time.
The one that came with mine is the most complete diamond description document I have ever seen.

The other posters in this thread gave you good advice so I won''t repeat it.

Welcome.
Its basically all the reports and pictures on the website printed out.
Mine ran aprox. 10 pages.
For a ring I understand he adds another 2-3 pages one with a description of the ring and 1 or 2 of photos.

In a few years(2-3) after purchase an independent appraiser will come in handy for an updated appraisal and check for damage.
I would ask them to include all the gog documentation in the report as it reflects the value added to the diamond that a replacement must match.
