I've been watching Deadliest Catch for years. Being a Marylander, I love blue crab. But I like the big Alaskan crab too. After watching ths show, I finally realized why Alaskan crab is so expensive!

Last night's episode and the following roundtable discussion was a tear-jerker. Every minute of it. ;( I had no idea he built birdhouses. That thing they showed was nothing short of amazing. A stone fireplace... with logs too! Captain Phil had a stroke during the season... yet Captain Jonathan Hillstrand of the Time Bandit skipped his dream of a lifetime warm water big-game fishing trip, and was seldom seen away from Phil's side at the hospital. When son Jake admitted his addiction to Phil, rather than flying off the handle, Phil said something like "You need to get help Jake. I'll go to meetings with you." Very impressive.

Rest in peace Phil. May your crab pots always be full in Heaven.

Any other fans here?

Yes, my husband and I were both in tears. Seeing him in the hospital was just so sad... it must be devastating for his family. You could tell that when he was apologizing to his son for not being a better father, he knew he didn't have much time left.

I did not watch it and am not an avid watcher of the show, but I do enjoy it when I catch it, and had been following Captain Phil's illness... So terribly sad that he passed. I actually want to catch this episode. Maybe I can find it on demand.

The main episode is on the Discovery Channel again tonight at 10, Friday at 1AM and Tuesday at 8PM. There was a special "after the catch"episode that followed and that will be replayed on the Discovery Channel on Tuesday, July 20 from 6PM - 7PM.

I'm sure the remaining shows will be equally special:
DEADLIEST CATCH: Episode 15 - Tuesday, July 20 at 9PM ET/PT
The news of Phil'S death reaches the rest of the fleet. Captains Keith, Johnathan, Andy and Sig all struggle to come to terms with their friend and colleague's passing.

CAPTAIN PHIL HARRIS REMEMBERED - Tuesday, July 20 at 10PM ET/PT
A special one-hour look back at the life of Captain Phil Harris, skipper of Cornelia Marie. The special includes interviews with fellow captains and deckhands, memorable "Phil moments" from the past six seasons of DEADLIEST CATCH, never-before-seen footage from behind the scenes and fan remembrances recorded at CatchCon 2010 and Phil's public memorial service in Seattle.

DEADLIEST CATCH: Episode 16 - Tuesday, July 27 at 9PM ET/PT
On the finale of the sixth season of DEADLIEST CATCH, the fleet is still absorbing the news about Phil. But the stormy waters of the Bering Sea never take a break, and the Captains and the crew must soldier on in the race to make their quotas, as the Opilio season comes to an end.

We haven't watched regularly the last few seasons, but we keep up on it, and were glued to the tv the first few seasons. Broke my heart to hear of Phil's passing. :blackeye:
