Ran across this today on the DB website (www.debeers.com). I really like the channel set solitaire..

Of course. The center stone looks huge. Next image is of the same rings. The W shaped one is their 'signature'.

Interesting...surfing around their site they have some tutorials, one on cut. They will let you roll over table and depth %'s so that they can show you what it looks like on a stone (just a drawing) and also says things like 'well-cut' and 'acceptable'. According to DB a 63% depth is a well-cut stone and a 64% table is acceptable. But anything over 64% table is unacceptable.

No wonder we get so many maul shell-shocked buyers in here with horribly cut deep stones! I was somewhat appalled to see that DB considers something with 63% depth to be well-cut and 64% table acceptable. Their tutorial talks nothing of putting those two pieces together...so in essence you could have a 64% table and 63% depth stone and it'd be acceptably well-cut!

Way to go DB.

This image shows the W prong I mentioned above. Pretty setting actually, I like the delicate appearance...but my heart belongs to the melee channel set.

Can you believe I never went on THAT website yet! That "cup" setting was worth it though

. I wander how it would look with a nice ruby tough...

Thanks!

Good one Mara.
Here is a De beers acceptable cut.

so do you think De beers are loosing millions or billions with their bold new venture - what is it now 1 store in London and 1 or 2 in Tokyo?

I recognize the diamond they show in their opening page of cut info.

This picture is about 15 years old, if not older.

I guess they do not see any reason to update it

I think their logo looks like the golden arches..
Doesn't the diamond in that also look deep (not a bad look, though...)

Look at the trident series. Will three prongs really hold a diamond in?

Stunningly bad DC image Garry!!

Images 15 years old....out of date cut information. De Beers either needs to update their website or their way of thinking. Both?

Interesting Q... Their partners seem to be into 50 countries by now, but each shop takes an average 6 month to set up. So, I would vote fora few hundred million and call it dead-weight cost, unfortunately.

Why there were no 'ideal' entries in the De beers diamond awards? Actually, I don't remember any winners singled out for their diamond cutting techniques. Too bad... That would definitely be a change.

I love that channel setting. It is absolutely gorgeous. I wonder how much they are selling that setting for.
