Before today I thought DDS was a simple condition that comes about after one gets "used" to their ring. Well, I selected a wonderful 7.52mm diameter RBC stone from Yoni at Eternitybyyoni.com and had him ship it to me for inspection. It looks brilliant and beautiful in real life, however the small itch in the back of my head had me wondering "should I get a larger stone?"

So after reaching a wonderful conclusion to my diamond search, I now sit on the fence again, with the dreaded DDS staring me straight in the face in the form of 1.75+ carat diamonds wondering if a .25-.35mm difference would make it all better. Of course I know my girlfriend will be thrilled with the stone, but I want to be mind clean before giving her something because I want to share in her joy without reservation.

Do loose stones looks smaller than set stones?

Also the setting will be a simple 4 prong channel set design, so no added finger coverage from the setting.

I think they do look smaller when loose. They do to me. I have a 5.6mm stone in a setting and it looks like a nice size to me for a pendant. And i have a 5.8mm stone loose and when I look at it, I think it looks smaller. I have to hold it up next to the other one to see it's actually larger.

Yes, don't worry, it'll look bigger once it's set. The setting makes a big difference too. A halo or 3 stone will add more finger coverage than a plain solitaire.

Mine looked waaay bigger when set than when loose. Get it set and check it out again - that's a very nice size!

yep, I agree with gypsy and Laila, diamonds look smaller when they are loose. I was very pleasantly surprised when my stone was returned in it's setting. And a 7.5mm is a very nice size stone.
