DH and I are planning a little babymoon in Washington DC over the long Memorial Day weekend. While I''ve spent tons of time in DC, it was always as a resident, not a tourist so I now have NO IDEA about what hotels to stay at. Actually it''s been a good 10 years since I''ve been there so while I have a vague recollection of the touristy areas and the general layout, knowing what''s walking distance/near a metro/shady section is fuzzy.

So, I''m taking recommendations for hotels in the DC area. Preferably 4 stars or higher and within walking distance of the Mall or a metro stop.

I lived right near DC for years, so I have stayed there a lot.

I love The Jefferson Hotel. And the Hotel Monaco has an absolutely incredible restaurant downstairs called Poste. YUM!

But the best hotel IMO is the old Hotel Washington, now the W Hotel. The website is here

The rooftop restaurant gives you a view of the entire DC area. The White House lit up at night is gorgeous. And you would be within walking distance of all the major sight seeing spots, museums, and restaurants.

Don't miss the The Capital Grille for dinner (601 Pennsylvania Avenue Northwest MAKE A RESERVATION!) as well as District Chophouse and Brewery where all the political insiders go after work. Great gossip, even better spinach artichoke dip.

I would second all of this. Any one of the Kimpton Hotels will be good, and the W is in a great location and has that amazing rooftop space. I also have a soft spot for the Willard and the Hay-Adams.

Also, Plume, the restaurant at the Jefferson Hotel, has been getting a lot of really great reviews.

My dad and I stayed at an awesome hotel in DC - Hotel Palomar, I think it was called. Super cute and unique, walking distance to the Metro.

DH and I went the end of Feb for a long w/e. We stayed at the Doubletree on Rhode Island because I got a good deal. It''s more boutique than typical DT. I keep hearing about the Jefferson though.... That and the Hotel Rouge though I think that is quite a bit further away.

I know you didn''t ask for restaurant recommendations, but Clyde''s in Georgetown has butternut squash ravioli that is to die for. They also do a duck carbonara that is amazing!!! I don''t think they do the carbonara at lunch, though they do have the ravioli. The advantage to going at lunch is you can pop up the block to Georgetown Cupcake. :)
