Go, Danny, go!

The good thing about it at least is that the next day it's done. I know I shouldn't have waited so long but, blah, I just couldn't make myself.

Jen, I envy people who have people to clean for them. I admit it.

I read that William and Kate aren't going to have servants. You know what I think, they'll have people come in after them and clean. Somehow I doubt they're going to be spending their time vacuuming the floors and washing the dishes.

When they say no servants, I suspect they mean no butler, footmen, parlour maids and the like. I don't for a moment imagine they're going to be doing their own housework. I could be wrong, of course, but I have a feeling they mean no liveried / uniformed live-in servants. Fair enough, I don't have them either.

I'd like a personal maid, a gardener, and a driver. That's all I want. Just three employees. :?

Spray the shower after you have run it with hot water. Come back in a bit and rinse off the tiles..

I have a suggestion for hard wood floors in iLander's thread, this stuff rocks. I hate cleaning...

After I clean the showerwall tiles (about twice a year) I apply car wax and wipe. Then when you shower nothing sticks to the tiles and I can go 6 months without having to clean them.

Genius. It will be done. ;))

Really, I don't think that's too much to ask for. That sounds reasonable and modest. Just give some thought to adding a butler, because you don't want to have to worry about the day to day management. :))

Is that what butlers do? We don't have a lot of butlers here. We have personal secretaries but I don't know if they do the same thing. The only person I knew who had a personal secretary- the personal secretary made travel arrangements. I'm assuming she kept track of social engagements. Someone who would manage the mail and pay the bills would be nice.

I know I shouldn't complain (I mean I really know that). A lot of people, in fact I'd say probably more people than not in this world, don't have my (what's to me very modest) standard of living.

It's just that (and maybe some of my feelings about this have to do with the fact that SO and I have seen each other for a whole day and parts of two others in six months) doing everything is a little daunting. This is the first time I've lived alone. Not that SO ever cleans anything. Hahaha, because he doesn't.

If I could get a servant to do only ONE thing; wash the towels and sheets. So that I could open the linen closet, and they'd all be there light and fluffy. Then I would feel rich, even if I'm not.

Also, throw the flowers away before they die. Hate dead flowers. :(sad

So, I guess 2 things.

You made me feel guilty, Danny; I'm considering cleaning the bathroom.

I said "considering".

It's hard to be apart from your other half. DH worked overseas for a short time and I hated it too. I lived in squalor most of the time he was away, with a massive tidy up before I went to the airport to collect him. I hope you have some time together planned for the very near future. Hugs.

From my extensive personal knowledge of the topic (I watched Upstairs Downstairs) butlers run the household, a sort of head servant. I think they'd deal with your correspondence, but check that out at the interview stage. ;))

Oh, you know me too well. You've made me feel guilty with your graceful mea culpa in the other thread, feelings of being frustrated and, finally, not ignoring one I should have, and now having found myself guilty, I'm afraid to admit it. But I guess I just did.

That bathroom isn't going to clean itself, iLander!

Hahaha! Why do you think the house was last cleaned on Dec 24? Too funny!

And thanks. :))

Ah. I see. Well, maybe treat yourself to a half day of work from an industrial cleaning firm? I may have done that once or twice... :cheeky:

To tell you the truth I'm really glad that cleaning is a skill I have. I just don't enjoy it.

Having someone come in would nice. I had friends in college whose parents did (they complained about how the cleaning lady interrupted what they were doing or made them move, and I thought they were brats, but then again my SO does the same thing!).

I'll tell a story about myself.

When I was growing up, I had a nice bedroom. My mother bought me a nice set of furniture. She's an artist. She painted the constellation on a certain date she found in a book on the ceiling. I had a wool rug and curtains that matched the bedspread. It was nice.

I (although being a child) had a five hour routine for cleaning my room.

I polished the furniture, I vacuumed the screens, I washed the windows, I did everything.

At the end of my routine, and it was always five hours, the last thing I did was I combed the fringe on each end of the carpet, so that every piece of fringe was perfect.

My father was so freaked out! Hahaha! You would have thought he'd have been glad I kept my room clean, but no, he totally didn't get why I would spend five hours cleaning my room. ROTFL!

I can still clean like that, when I want to.

It sounds delightful! I think my daughter may turn out like that - she wanders round the house with our vacuum cleaner and pretends to be cleaning from time to time. She knows where we keep polish and dusters (I wasn't entirely clear on that myself). She asks for a cloth if she spills something. It isn't my DNA, that's for sure.

It sounds as though your mother created a lovely room for you. I wish I had the talent to do something like that. You'd want to have seen me putting up wallpaper. DH learned some new words, and well, we never looked out of that window very often, and you soon get used to feeling through paper to operate a light switch...

ETA my father would have broken down and cried with shock and gratitude if I cleaned my room. Your dad doesn't know when he's got it good. I wish I knew how to clean - I just smear the dirt around, mostly. ;(
