Hello, all! I''ve lurked a bit, and I felt it was time for my first post. I still don''t know all the rules of etiquette, links, and all, so please let me know if I''ve unknowingly committed some cardinal sin.

My boyfriend and I are talking about rings, and I''m undecided on a halo around the main diamond with a shared/common prong setting or pave, or no halo.

I love the look of the Memoire Petite Prong sets, but lately, the halos have caught my eye.

Finally, the question: I like the look of the Danhov ME29 Eternity ring, but the culet is completely exposed. Will this definitely chip easily?

I like that the sides are not smooth. Do you know of any other rings that are similar but perhaps more protected if necessary?

Thank you!

It seems as though someone else asked this very question a few months back, but I''ve not been able to locate the thread.

I know that 2danes has the ME29 so you may want to search for her name to see if you have any better luck finding that discussion. It seems like it wasn''t a big concern, but I''m not 100% positive.

Danhov makes another ring that is very similar, but has a bit of a ''basket'' that may protect the cutlet better. I''m not sure if you looked at it already or not, it''s the ME11. http://www.jamesallen.com/designer-jewelry/meno-collection-by-danhov/ring/item_294-1131_design.asp?module=setting

The ME1 is also pretty similar. http://www.jamesallen.com/designer-jewelry/meno-collection-by-danhov/ring/item_294-1129_design.asp?module=setting

Of the three, I like them in this order ME29, ME11, ME1. But then again I prefer the stone to be set as low as possible, so that could be why the ME1 is last on my list even though it''s really pretty. Both of these do have ''smooth sides'' though.

No matter which you go with, Danhov makes beautiful settings. I have the ME10 and absolutely LOVE it. Good luck choosing!

The culet is very unlikely to chip since it''s pointing down to your skin. If you banged the ring into a door or something, it could push into your finger a little, but the culet wouldn''t be near anything hard.

Yeah, because it has the little ring around the culet, that should take the hit instead of the culet if you smack your ring into anything. But it''s always possible and that is why there is insurance!

I have a danhov setting where the culet is exposed and it''s protected just fine and it doesn''t hurt my finger either. I wouldn''t worry about it.

The ring is around the Girdle.

The culet is the point at the bottom completely protected from the top by the table of the diamond itself, along with the gold around the girdle, and from the bottom by your own skin.

Sorry, yes, my phrasing was confusing. I meant that it will protect the culet, not that it was physically around the culet itself.
