I went 5.34 miles just now in an hour and twenty minutes with the 15lbs. Slow I know...It is painfully hot/humid this afternoon and I think I can tell exactly where I missed with sunscreen. How is everyone else doing?

Bad, bad, bad. No workouts on Saturday, Sunday or this morning. I''m going to try to get my butt to the gym tomorrow morning. I always feel so good after working out, I don''t know why I can''t get myself to go.

My eating was not too bad this weekend, but I drank too much as usual.

Well... tomorrow is another day.

Keep up the good work Matadora!

well i did a little workout this morning. call it curcuit training. i started on the tread, b/c the elliptals were taken. when one opened, i jumped on to do my regular 30 minutes. but, for some unknonwn, i started having side cramps!! ah- so i hopped on the bicycle machine and did the rest of my time on that. uh! i need more-- maybe i will double up my gym visits! cardio in the morning and weights after work. i have a wedding to attend this weekend...plus it''s out of town- we are flying there... and i always get bloated on vacations-- so more workout to do before i go!!!

AP- as long as you keep trying you will get there, I have faith in you.

Jcrow- good work! Way to put in your time even when you are not feeling up to it! Nice work!

Didnt make it to the gym this morning. It was rainy and dreary and just couldnt get up. I plan on going afterwork, I get out at 4, so at least I will beat the rush!

AP, I did fairly well with the food as well, why does alcohol have to be so unhealty?

i justify it with wine!

I went to work out on Sat, for about an hour (my hubby watched the kids while they were napping). I never worked out so hard in my life, I actually broke into a sweat (I''m a person who never sweats!)

On Sunday, I ran into an ex-coworker at a party. She was SOOOOOOO SKINNY that it scared me. She''s about 5''6 and used to weigh a healthy 140-145lbs/ She said she went on a diet using supplements and calorie counting. She''s now down to 115 and it looks scary thin because she had a med/large frame to begin with. Her neck bones were poking out while she was talking. My frame is similar, execpt I''m an inch taller, and I used to set my goal weight to about 120lb. After seeing her, I have to say 125-130lbs is more ideal for my frame, I DON''T want to look skeletal!

I''m going to the gym for at lunch today. I''ll report on that later.

Is this only for the ladies waiting? I''m a guy and I''m working out a lot to get ready for my wedding next summer.

Welcome Brando! You are welcome to join us this is a daily thread for anyone who wants to have a more helathy lifestyle, though many of us are trying to lose weight. What are your goals if you dont mind me asking?

I think I speak for everyone when I say "Welcome, Brando" ! I would like to hear about your workout & progress, cause my BF needs a little help in the fitness dept too...I love his belly but he is as out of shape as I am! He gets winded grocery shopping

I think we''d all like to hear about a man getting ready for his wedding, since some of us have guys that just want to show up

I look forward to hearing about your self-improvement plan....

I did my usual lunchtime workout: Ran for 2 miles on the treadmill, elliptical for 15 minutes, and abs and arms for 15 minutes.
Then I had the most amazing baby spinach, and bacon salad from trader joes. It had poppyseed dressing! I''m psyched because I dropped 2lbs from last week. Could be just water weight though, I was pretty bloated last week.

Ooops, Miss Matatora beat me to welcoming Brando!

I had every intention of going to the gym this morning but last night decided to go to the laundromat at 10:00, got home all wired...had to iron & watch tv and stay up giggling w/ the BF until 3 this morning! I did walk a lot today all around the lower east side, but forgot my pedometer, so I don''t know how much I walked. I just found an article in New York mag''s wedding addition (I know, bridal ****, but it made my train ride home go so much faster!) pg 54 called "body boot camp" the opening quote is:

"Work like an athlete. Shoot for the moon. Think of it as if you''re in training for your wedding. If you''re faithful to the routine, you''ll be tight, toned & look like a goddess." Trainer Kacy Duke, Equinox
( I''ll amend that last sentence to "look like a God" in honor of Brando

I don''t have a scanner but it gives short exercise & diet & beauty suggestions. The rules for exercise are:

-Start the program 3 to 6 months in advance
-Exercise 3 to 4 times per week
-and unless otherwise indicated do 3 sets of 12 reps for each exercise

and then lists very basic tricep, bicep, shoulder, upper back, ab, legs & butt & outer thigh exercises. Combine these w/30 to 45 min of cardio and then concentrate on a certain area each week.

Of course this probably isn''t for someone like me who needs to lose a minimum of 75lbs but what the hell, its something to start with. I''m going to go do the upper body in a little bit!

and I will be hitting the gym tomorrow......promise

Oh well here goes, I have a history of being overweight. I was a fat kid from Jr. High through High school. I never liked the way I looked and it was so hard to work out and lose weight that I never did it.

Well after graduating from college I moved to Washington and decided to get in shape no matter how hard it was. It took about 1 1/2 years and a LOT of work, and some extra help that I never counted on but I went from about 300 lbs to 210 or so. Not ideal but I was definetly a lot healthier and felt a lot better about myself. About that time I actually started dating (this from a guy who had never really dated anyone his entire life), Nothing worked out in Washington and I wanted to get my Masters still so I went back to California and have been here the last 2 years working on my degree.

I met my girlfriend/soon to be fiance 2 years ago, right before I started my MA program. Since then I started slowly putting the lbs back on. It''s been a combination of schoolwork, dating, and pure laziness. Anyhow I was back up to 240 and I drew the line. The last month or so I''ve been determined to get back down to at least 210 or less. My wedding is coming up next summer and I don''t want to be ashamed of the way I look in those pictures forever.

Now I''m working hard at losing weight again. It''s a LOT harder to do it with someone than alone. On my own I could easily control what I bought and ate, now I have someone else''s cravings and wants to deal with as well as mine and it''s tough but I''m working on it.

Today I get off work in about an hour, I''m heading straight to the gym for about a 5 mile run then it''s chicken and rice for dinner tonight. For breakfast I had plain non-fat yogurt with granola and some toast, lunch was a big salad so I''m off to a good start this week. Which is good because I ate so much this weekend and didn''t get to the gym on Sunday because I had to change the breaks on my car and didn''t feel like it after that.

Working out isn''t a problem for me really, I''m back in the habit of that. What''s hard is the weekends, I love food! I can eat well all week but the weekends are tough! My girlfriend and I always want to go out and we try to limit it to 1 meal a weekend but it never works out that way lol.

Anyhow, that''s it in a nutshell, long post!

Well I think I''ll start adding to this thread too.

We joined a new gym that opened near us last weekend. I went this morning and did 25 minutes on the eliptical machine then another 10 on the stairmaster. I did some natulus (sp?) machines focusing on abs, legs and arms. I couldn''t go this weekend b/c of family parties.

Unfortunately once we got home I realized my son had diarrhea! (sorry to be gross!) So I obviously won''t be able to go tomorrow unless I go in the evening when my hubby gets home, which is hard to do b/c he works very late.

That''s the big problem with me - with the two toddlers it''s hard to have any routine. Last week I went to the gym 3 times, now with my son sick I probably won''t be able to go any more this week.

With my luck his sister will catch whatever he has, then it will be longer before I can go again.

eeee well I ate like a fiend last week in Houston, but it was all just soo good. Oh and we walked alot.
31.gif
Oh and lifting the diamonds worked out my arms.

I worked out last week according to my schedule so that was good. I am contemplating going to kbox tonite, but I may go tomorrow and then again on Thurs (I prefer a Tues/Thurs schedule so it's spread out) and just walk tonite.

Dinner is grilled chicken kebabs; steamed cauliflower and fresh mozzarella and heirloom tomatoes. Yum. Had Kashi for breakfast and my fave salad for lunch. So I'm back on track with eating, which feels good after last week!

Oh and Jaysons it's so funny you mention skeletal etc because I think we all have such a misconception on where our weights should be in general...aka a while back I lost about 10 lbs after a breakup, and my coworker said I was 'too skinny' when in reality I didn't feel so at all. But in her eyes I guess I was. Totally interesting the way people view us and the way we view ourselves. Sometimes being too skinny just doesn't look good, esp if you are taller with a taller frame like I have...I can't get too thin. I'm not a tiny little 5 footer Nicole Richie!!

Good for you JaysonsMom! 2lbs in one weeks is AWESOME!!!!

FFF- Have you tried putting your odemeter on your socks? I found that when I am going it gets bumped less when I have it lower but recordeds the movement just as well.
JellyBean- I am sorry to hear about your little one. I dont know if you have ever read any of the fit Pregnacy magazines, but we get them (dads an IVF DR), and they have great exercises that you can do with you little ones.
Mara- What are vacations for if not to enjoy yourself? Besides it seemed like you were close to your goal, and your eating habits are great!
Brando- It sounds like you have a great plan! Perhaps you can find healthy activity for the two of you to do as a couple, what about hiking or evening walks? Anyway welcome we are thrilled to have you!

You guys are giving me inspiration to hit the gym tonite!

I did good on Sat- 45 minutes on the treadmill, but skipped out yesterday (hangover- it takes soooo much longer to recover the older you get!) At least I did good with the diet yesterday.

Diet today has been good- yogurt for breakfast, string cheese for mid-morning snack, grilled chicken salad for lunch, apple for mid-afternoon snack, and LOTS of water.

I''m outta here in 5 minutes, and I promise to hit the gym! I have to, as I''ll be on the road tomorrow and won''t be able to. I''m flying to Houston for biz, and will also visit Whiteflash.

Well I made it to the gym after work. 20 minutes of squats and lunges, with a few bicep curls mixed in. Then 40 minutes on eliptical. Food was okay today. Trying not to be too hard on myself. Zone bar for breakfast, half a turkey sandwich for lunch, cookie this afternoon (but only one!) and after the gym I stopped at whole foods and bought tomatoes and fresh mozza to go with the chix i broiled. so not too bad.

Oh, and welcome to all the new people on here. Jelly and Brando, its nice to have new additions and perspectives on our forum...WELCOME!

hahah mrs flutter, your dinner sounds like ours! grilled chix kebabs and fresh tomato/mozz with cauliflower! too funny.

i just had a snackie...a toffuti cutie...has anyone had those? it''s a small ''ice cream'' sandwich bar. it''s not that bad (5g of fat), only 120 calories and 17g (6% of fat)...so it''s a YUMMI treat and it tastes like real ice cream, it''s awesome. i get wild berry.

I ate a late lunch this afternoon, more thin sliced roast beef, yummy! So I decided to nix dinner as I was not really hungry. My maybe workout out buddy and I just went 8.14 miles, I had on the 15lbs of weights. I am really hoping she and I will be able to go seven days a week! Now we are off to do some healthy food shopping!

I LOVE toffuti''s! I get them at Trader Joe''s. The only problem is that I tend to have more than one at a time. Sometimes I have no self-control- ugh.

I did go to the Gym tonite and hit the treadmill for 45m. I''m glad I went.

Sounds like everyone did good today. Great way to start the week!
