I found a web site with 42 pages of semi mounts. I couldn''t believe it. It was awesome. What does the forum think of cz semi mounts? I suppose I could have it reproduced by a jeweler but the prices were great also.
You don''t mention the site but are you refering to czplatinum.com? they have a lot of cool things to look at....
I know this is the diamond forum, but I''d like to tell you my experience with a cz website, if Leonid will indulge me.
I think those sites are wonderful places to see a lot of generalized settings, play around with stone shapes and ct sizes and to ,quite frankly, dream of your perfect diamond ring, great inspiration & fun....but as for trying to either "pass" as a diamond or to use as a semi-mount for the real thing, well, you get what you pay for.
Before I inherited my omc, BF and I visited a lot of those sites- he not only had $$ concerns but kept bringing up the whole "blood diamond" argument and we wanted to see just how "real" a ring from a cz site would look. I ended up finding someone on E-bay who had bought a 1.5 ct rd set in 14k white gold bezel that he wanted to sell, with the original receipt from a well-known cz site (this isn''t meant to knock the site so I won''t name it) for a lot less then the original $$. It''s a half a size too small but I decided to buy it & see what I thought. What I got was a stone that could never "pass" as a diamond- pretty but such an odd cut & faceting job that it screams fake (plus its 8mm for 1.5 rd?) and the bezel is somewhat uneven, I wouldn''t say its close to e-ring quality . For about $50 I have something that maybe I would consider putting a less-expensive semi-precious gemstone in, but I don''t even know if resetting in a full bezel is a possibility.
Maybe the18k or Platinum settings offered are better craftmanship but if you were to buy one of these settings with cz sidestones with the intent of having a diamond mounted as the center stone I''m sure you would have an odd looking ring.
Just wanted to share my experience....good luck in your hunt for the perfect setting!
