There are many ways to tell for the trained gemologist. CZ has much more dispersion than diamond. If it is a round diamond and you place it table down on paper with some sort of writing on it you will not be able to see the writing through the bottom if it is cut normally. This only works on round and is called the see thru test. The facet junctions are sharper on diamond than CZ. Cz's facet junctions are sort of rounded. Please remember the most common mistake or myth about diamond is that only diamond will cut or scratch glass. This is NOT TRUE. Glass will scratch glass. Any substance as hard or harder will scratch that material, so please do not ever try that test for the sake of the glass and possibly the diamond. All of these tests and observations should be done with care and done by a professional. The best thing to do is go to your local jeweler and have them use a diamond tester. This is a very quick test and you should not get charged very much if anything at all. Before you ask for the test ask if there is a charge. If there is anything else I can do please just let me know.
