Hi, I just sent this to Caysie, but I don’t know how long it will be before she replies
So I thought I would ask here.

One of my prongs is so very slightly lifting after about 4 or so years, but my diamond is very exposed and only 4 prongs, and I baby the ring, so it is now off until this gets fixed.

I worry about handing it locally, but I have finally found a bench who I trust could handle this. What do you all think I should do?

I’m going to give it a few days for Caysie to reply, but if not, I would like the consensus. As those of you who know, know her bench does very refined work.

pics: it was hard to get a pic but I think you get the idea.

let's see if some pros respond... i think if you found a local bench you trust, pushing a prong flush should be a really easy thing for them to do.

I just get a little worried because my mom had prong issues and went to a local bench to fix it (6 prong Tiffany type of setting and her diamond had fallen out)… and they fixed it and a few weeks later, her diamond fell out again and she never found it. My dad died 11 years ago, so it was traumatic for her.

(but she is ham handed and rough).

her jeweler is in a different city, so not one I will be using.

oh i'm so sorry that happened to her, how awful. i get it - it's hard trusting someone to fix it right. at least you have the know-how to spot if it's still loose which i would guess 95% of people don't.

Right! Like many PSers, I know this ring better than I know myself lol.

They basically just push the prong down, so I would get it done locally because I think the risk of shipping it around is way higher than the risk of the bench fking up the ring in some way.

thanks, I did right before I posted here. It’s her busy season, so it might get lost in all her other correspondences.

Wait until you hear back imo, with a complex setting I am always more comfortable with the person who made it working on it.

Update: I never heard back and then I got really busy. The ring went to a safe location and I finally got it fixed at a local NOLA jewelry store that I use for my watches. (my mom had surgery so I’m here helping out)

The bench told me it was definitely lifted, but the stone wasn’t in danger of falling out. Still, he tamped that prong down and “tightened” the other prongs for good measure.

Relief! I missed my ring.
