Hello! Relatively new to this forum. I just got a diamond and proposed with flying colors :)

Just had a quick concern/question.. I had a custom halo setting done in platinum with a basket and the cutlet seems to be pressing against the ring. It's hard to tell with the basket somewhat covering the diamond, but is this normal? I was concerned about the cutlet being damaged if its pressed against the platinum? I'll post pictures later today. Any help is appreciated! Thanks!

It's lovely- I'm not a halo setting expert so I don't know I'd the way yours is set is a problem

thanks! :) its a round F, VS1, XXX, HCA ~ 1.4-1.6, no fluor, 1.55 carat.

It seemed like they rushed making the custom setting.. it was a bit unpolished when it was done so I needed to repolish.. which makes me think they possibly rushed placing the diamond? I suppose I can ask during an appraisal? Not sure if it was normal for the cutlet to you pressed against the platinum..

The culet shouldn't be touching platinum. Can you really see the culet to know that for sure?

Ya... I've been looking at it multiple times with my fiance and its definitely pressing against the platinum.. is it possible that the culet can get damaged from this?? Should I get it appraised to make sure it isn't damaged?

I don't think it could damage the diamond since the diamond is harder that the metal. But it might affect the performance of the diamond, and it might make it harder to clean, etc. I'd use a good independent appraiser like those we know here...Neil Beatty, David Atlas, etc. and get them to tell you if the setting needs to be redone. If the setting is faulty, I'd probably want a refund and start over with someone who I believe would make it correctly.

Sorry can't help with your question but your engagement ring is gorgeous!
