Hi all.

I'm in the market for an engagement ring and i've been doing as much research as I can before the time comes to drop the money for one. I've discovered that my girfriend prefers a square shaped diamond so I've settled on a princess. However, I spoke to a jeweller today who informed me that Princess diamonds are not graded in the same way as round brilliants are in terms of Cut (i.e. they don't have "ideal, excellent, very good, etc. on the certificate). What he didn't do a very good job off (clearly because he didn't know) is tell me how I could discern the quality of a princess diamond's cut by looking at the certificate.

So now I'm kind of lost. I know that cut is the most important aspect of choosing a good diamond but I have no clue how to determine if I'm buying a well cut Princess.

If anyone has any advice for me, it would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks in advance

I hope this question makes sense

What your jeweller told you is sort of true and not quite true. As I''m not very well versed in princess cuts, for me, I''d stick to AGS certification for princess cuts and go for those with AGS0 for light performance. AGS has rated their stones based on ASET testing for light performance, so you are pretty much guaranteed for a sparkler if you stick with AGS0 stones.

I dunno....maybe you're too modest...

Seems like you do know them pretty well to me...
