I'm helping my father and stepmother buy an anniversary/upgrade ring. She loved the Tiffany Lucida but wants to keep within a strict budget, definitely <$5,000. I have found a wonderful Vatche setting she loved and the diamond below looks great. She wasn't so keen on sharp square princess and prefers cut-corners.

Any suggestions from the experts?

How does she feel about asschers?

That's a beautiful choice. But it has a very different look than an asscher, which is also cut-cornered.

She'd probably love an Asscher. Her inspiration for getting a new ring was my EC 3-stone. But she decided a solitaire was more her style.

I don't think an asscher was top of her list once she saw the Lucida, but she's hard to read sometimes.

GOG recommended this setting - any thoughts?

If this is going to likely be a long term or forever ring for her, then by all means go for the Vatche. I think the princess of hearts is a great choice for that setting. I like an asscher more in a halo unless it is a really large size because they just don't have a lot of sparkle on their own to work well in a 5mm stone, in my opinion.

Yes to 'long term forever'. The Vatche isn't exactly a budget-friendly option but I don't know where it's best to try to save. Do you think the POH is worth it. I've started looking at some Radiants on James Allen. Are any of these pretty? I don't know what I'm looking for since these are really not to my taste.

I really like the 2nd one you linked: 1.06 I SI1. I was at Tiffanys a couple of months back and tried on the Lucida in a three stone. I loved that ring and have been stalking the radiants on JA for months daydreaming about making a copy of that ring.
I wouldn't consider a step-cut if she loved that ring, it's such a different look. I think with the above diamond and the Vatche setting the ring could look very close to what she wants.

I know this isn't exactly in budget nor is the setting remotely close ... but I have been drooling over this for days.

Oh Charmy that's gorgeous! If only my stepmother wasn't averse to a 'used' piece. I'd love to buy that for myself!

Any input between these two crowd favorites?

Also whether the Vatche setting is worth (almost) twice the price of the Unique?

Stick w/ GOG and get the stone and setting from them. The Vatche will have nicer more flowing lines and look less bulky and slapped-together, which is important in a setting for a stone this size - you want the delicate look.

This would be my vote too. How about going for wg instead of platinum to save some $$$s. Also if I remember right GOG offer 5% or something like that discount on the setting when bought with a diamond. Please check with GOG. Its not much but its something.

I really like the idea of buying through GOG, they seem awesome. David said there was no better diamond choice. I just spoke to my stepmother, she insisted on platinum and likes the Vatche best - this is a permanent ring for her. The only thing is the price, we're way over budget (by $1500!).

I actually love this diamond - and the price! I've just sent it to her. If we buy from JA do you have any setting suggestions in the Lucida style?

I love that diamond quaddio! I'll be sad to see it go as I was strongly considering buying it very soon. I didn't have any plans on what to do with it setting wise and really shouldn't buy another diamond at this time, I just spent some $$ so I'm very happy to see it get a good home :))
Use their chat function and put it on hold tonight so no-one else grabs it.
I bought my ec from JA and had it set elsewhere. I think any vatche dealer could do it for you.

I agree there are JA settings similar but they vatche one is the best. I'm sure a dealer can set it for you. And its a nice price so you can splurge on the perfect setting.

Love those. I don't know if your mom passed on the idea of a rectangular stone but did you see this.

Eta I'm trying to link you only the 1.1 but it won't stop linking both. :angryfire:

She's set on the square Lucida style and we have two GOG POH on hold. I'm hoping for a decision today depending on an 'eye clean' seal of approval from David. They've been so helpful.

I really love your choice Neil - the 1.01 JVS1 is one of the nicest diamonds I've ever seen! I'm considering getting it for myself but can't think of what I'd do with it - I totally lack creativity!

I hope the second one works out too - it's much larger. I calculated the area percentage and it's 32% bigger.

Update on this diamond - what would you do?

http://www.goodoldgold.com/diamond/10801/

Comment from GOG: Regarding the eye cleanliness - the only inclusion you & your parents may ever catch a glimpse of is the inclusion in the center that's pointed out in the microscope image #2. For me to spot it, I must rock it back and forth and scrutinize it 4" from my eyes. For an SI2, I can honestly tell you it's an remarkable one.

Of it were ME and it was in budget is be all over it. Is it with the vatche setting?

Yes - it's the Vatche. She didn't like the cheaper option.

She called me last night with some last-minute concerns saying maybe she'd be happier with F-VS2 since she spoke with her niece in Singapore and talked about it. I reminded her of the I-coloured Tiffany she liked so much, and that she can always go back to Tiffany in Australia and compare H and an F next to eachother.

Clarity is harder to explain. I'm considering going to NY this weekend to choose for her.

For the 1.01 above - do you think a setting like this with either white, pink or yellow halo would be pretty?

or even this one, perhaps with a yellow gold band for contrast if I did a white bezel?
