Custom Settings Question

The plan is to purchase a diamond from GOG and have it set by Mark Morrell. Here''s the questions I have.
Is it not smart to have it shipped directly to Mark from GOG and not physically seeing the diamond?
When do I have the appraisal done? Can the appraisal be done after the stone is set?

If you buy a very well cut stone with no compromising inclusions that need to be checked first, no, I think it''s fine to have it sent directly to Mark, and then have it appraised after it''s set. Jon can appraise it if you''d like, or you can have it done by an IA in your area. Have it done as soon as you get it if you go that route, so you can immediately insure it.

Thank you Ellen. I think that my only fear is that the stone is SI1, although Sarah at GOG has assured me that it is eye clean. Here''s a video if anyone would like to see... (I think I want to go with the one on the left, it''s also $1,400 less expensive...)
