I am up to speed on diamonds. However, finding the right setting is the next piece. I know my GF loves tacori style settings (go figure lol), so im wondering if its possible for a custom setting to be made that looks very close to a tacori ring. Specifically, the one below. If so, would there be a significant savings? It goes for 5.5k approximately from authorized tacori sellers. It seems really detailed so i dont know if it can truely be replicated with any real savings.

Thoughts????

That is a pretty detailed setting. Engagement Rings Direct has done some good Tacori inspired settings, I would say you may be able to save about 2k off retail, maybe only 1k. Depends how close you need it to be to that exact setting.

I wouldn't risk it - I really wanted to give her a Tacori 2620, and could potentially save 1000 was a replica. Was not worth after deliberation.

Oy. ERD would have to do a 20% design alteration for copyright. So even if they could, skillwise, replicate that setting, legally they would have to change it.

That said, is your girlfriend aware of the obscene cost of that setting? There was a Tacori I briefly flirted with but once I saw the price I was like HECK NO.
If you don't want to have the conversation with her (and really you SHOULD it's great practice for marriage)...
can you have her sister, mother, cousin, best friend point out to her that the money might be better off going for a simpler setting and putting more money into the center stone?

Maybe this one:

Or, you know this one: http://www.ritani.com/engagement-rings/three-stone-halo-diamond-band-engagement-ring-in-platinum/5012

I really think you should talk to her.

I like the Tacori Gypsy just posted as well as the 2620 with the plain shank. The side stones run up the price on the one originally posted. Get the real thing, but go with a less expensive Tacori!

If you are brave you can also hit ebay. I didn't find that exact setting but I did find some savings.

This one is a serious bargain: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Tacori-2620-RDLGP-Dantela-Platinum-Diamond-Engagement-Wedding-Ring-STUNNING-/191239614827?pt=Diamond_Solitaire_Rings&hash=item2c86c4f16b takes a 1.5 carat center.

Modest budget option, takes a 5.5mm stone: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Tacori-18K-Engagement-Halo-Setting-2620RDSM-NEW-IN-BOX-/191231858283?pt=US_Engagement_Ring_Settings&hash=item2c864e966b

Tacori customizes each setting as per the size of the diamond. That's why its best to get the stone first and then have them make the setting and then set it. This way the proportions are always 100% perfect. Buying it off ebay or 2nd hand without the stone, you may not get a perfect final product.

Hi guys,

Thanks for the replies. I definitely agree that the price is a bit outrageous and so does she. She keeps saying to get it custom made and it will be much cheaper, but she doesnt seem to really understand what she is talking about lol.

Ill definitely talk to her about it some more and show her the other options. She needs to better understand the tradeoff between allocating price towards settings vs diamond.

Thanks pals

Really? A Tacori seller told me they make each setting in a few stock sizes (like small, med, large), but not that they custom made for each individual stone. Can anyone confirm or deny?

I am not sure about everyone else's but mine is being custom made for my stone which they have at Tacori right now.

From what ive heard from some dealers, Tacori will custom make the setting to the stone measurements.
