I''m going a little batty-- and have a few questions...

After what seems like endless searching (and endless torture for my poor bf), I think the only way to have the ring of my dreams is going custom. At this point I''m just shopping around and not ready to start the process until I have as much info as possible. I''d like to know if it is OK to call or email custom designers to get a general idea of pricing? And would I just give them a general description and/or send a design of a ring I like?

The design I''m looking for isn''t too ornate. WG 1/2 eternity Micropave band 1.8-2mm (1 or 2 pointers in the melee), basket incorporated into the shank (not a peg). I very much like the look of Leon Megé designs (micropave, simple baskets)-- but I would prefer WG for financial reasons. I know custom design prices are not easy to predict, but does anyone think it would be possible to get a setting like this made for 2K or under?

Oh, and just to add, I know the WF legato and harmony are extremely popular around here, does anyone know if requesting a change to the baskets would affect the price a ton?

The craziness subsides a little when I remember the vast well of knowledge that is PS.

Thanks in advance!

It is perfectly acceptable to email custom jewelers and ask for an idea of what a ring like you are describing will cost. A picture detailed with the changes you would like to make is priceless because it provides a visual reference and often times might trigger "Oh I''ve seen that before in this catalogue..." and possibly save you some cash. Why not email WF and LM and indicate the mountings that you like within their offerings and ask whether it is possible to change the cagework and/or make the ring in white gold? Easy enough.

That''s what I did. I sent a picture and asked for pricing. Might want to try GLJW.com. Good luck!

Me too! From the same place. And I would say it''s definitely doable for under $2K. My quote from them was around that mark and I had a halo added.
