Custom Setting.....HELP!!!

I am getting various prices for custom settings for an engagement ring....

How do I know what direction to go with???

Whose the most reputable in New York????

The various prices aren''t surprising ... jewelers are artists/artisans, and they charge on the basis, not just of materials and time, but also reputation and skill. As for which direction to go in ... you''ll want to hunt around and see who does the kind of work you''re looking for, and who does it *best.* Leon Mege has a good reputation on this board (check out www.artofplatinum.com), but there are literally thousands of amazing jewelers in the jewelry district. Could you tell us a little bit more about what you''re hoping to have made?

You can get very different quotes depending on the quality of the designer, how ornate the design is, etc. The important this is to check out a vendors custom work and see what their quality is like.

Leon mege is known as one of (or the best) custom designer and he does happen to be in your area. His prices on plain metal styles are affordable and competitive, but his pave designs can be pretty expensive.

You might want to also check out goodoldgold.com. I think they are in long island? They are very well regarded on this forum and can also do lovely custom work that might be more affordable than leon.

keep in mind that you often get what you pay for with custom design. You may be able to get a cheaper quote elsewhere, but you should definitely look at pictures of their previous work to make sure they are up to par.
