Hello, I need help from talented PSers for a custom setting for a RHR! The diamond would be an OMC or OEC with no side stones. I have a bunch of inspo pics but I’m wanting to figure out how to put it together to make it look right! I’m loving the octagonal faux bezel with claw prongs look. I want YG.

Here are some of the inspo pics I’ve found. I think I want either engraved shank or minimal diamonds on it. I’m thinking a cathedral maybe but need help with that along with the side view especially!

Who is making it? What is your budget? How large is the diamond?

Who is making it? What is your budget?

Either DKJ or possibly Alex Parks on IG. I was going to ask both for a ~quote before I start having them do CADS… AP said around $1800 for the setting when I sent inspo pics but I haven’t actually gotten a true quote!

“but I’m wanting to figure out how to put it together to make it look right!”

My opinion :
Start with your jeweler
Show them your inspo pictures with circled elements that are important to you
Have them come up with a design - then you tweak off of that.

That makes sense. I was thinking I needed a pretty good idea of what I want before I go to them. Maybe that isn’t the case.

I’m sorry. Let me rephrase that.
The rings that you have pictured have markedly different looking ‘cathedral’ shoulders from each other.
All can be put together with an octagonal faux bezel in a way that looks cohesive. Flip side - with some effort or carelessness, that same thing can be done and not look cohesive. Or to your taste.

Pick one of those cathedral shoulders and along with your center stone, the tweaking is then done (to your eye or the jeweler you pick’s eye) to be cohesive. And to your taste.

You’ve picked some very iconic rings as your inspo. Love them all.

I think you need to narrow it down a little more.

Like...
I want the top view like this...show a picture.
I would like the side view similar to this or this...show pictures.
I want the gallery to look similar to this...show a picture.

You're asking a lot for us to mash several different side/gallery styles together without
more specifics. Who knows, though...someone might have the time to take it on!

Edit...Or

Pick one ring that you like except maybe want one or two areas you want changed. We
could probably work with that.

Okay! I sent more info the jewelers I’m considering and we will see what they say.

I love the faux bezel of this one. IMG_7313.png

I like the shank on these … but as you said those are very different. O

For the basket- I have no idea. Maybe a lotus basket?

I find it easiest to start with a design the jeweler has already done. Then ask for changes from that.

And these designs are very difficult to execute. My original setting for my 1.89ct is in the mix and it is die struck. Not cast. Many of your other inspo are hand forged. Others are made by very high end designers. Point being these are not 1800 settings and for some of the styles DK and AP may not be able to recreate. This is why you should begin with inspo from the jewler you plan to use so you know they can execute and what it will look like. That will also allow you to get a more realistic quote.

The ring with the transitional and rubies is mine from Cvb. I would recommend from experience to go with the original creator because it can be really tough to replicate. After many trial and error rings.....I have learned that it can be more cost effective to go with the original designer of the pieces you love. I generally try to have a whole vision board put together and then talk to who I decide to go with. It makes it much easier to make sure you are on the same page. David is great as well but I find it difficult to translate what I want in words and proportions. I hope you end up with your perfect ring.
