Custom ring? Sounds expensive... maybe I should ask here?

So, as I posted before,
I am in love with a setting I cannot afford. (Or could afford if I save for a long long long time.)
Many people here (I''ve noticed) have posted about Leon, his custom work, and the great price.
Could custom really be less expensive? It just doesn''t seem like it would.
Am I missing something?

Thanks, sorry to be such a newbie!

I have a Leon ering and I''ll be the first to say, his work is AMAZING and not at all expensive.

My setting is very detailed, pave everywhere, side stones, etc and it was just a little over 3K.

That included LABOUR.....

Honestly, if you have a style hedoes in mind, contact him about it.

His plainer settings with less detail run a 2k and up...

GENERALLY speaking custom is more expensive, but there are numerous variables that can change that. If you give some details about the setting you are looking at our custom experts will better able to assist you.

Nice lookin doggies!

I can imagine it being cheaper than some of the big name brands, where you pay a premium just for the name. I''m going custom because I couldn''t find exactly what I want and (maybe more importantly) I want my girlfriend''s ring to be unique. At first I thought it would be hideously expensive, but from looking around, the prices are pretty reasonable.

Hey 2Danes! You are still looking!?!?! I know how frustrating it can be. As far as the custom route it all depends on what you are thinking. Tell us which ring you are eyeing up and maybe we can help you find a way to get it in the budget!

Thanks ALL!!
Indeed, I am still looking! Finger is on the mend, won''t be ready for a ring for a while, but prices are also MIND BOGGLING!
I posted this elsewhere, but I''m in LOVE with a danhov setting from James Allen, but the cost is 6,000.

Here it is again:

Oh, how I love it!

That's a beautiful ring.... now I do remember you posting it before! Did you see this Leon? It isn't a split shank but the head is so similar...Leon

I'm not sure what the budget is, but you may be able to alter it to get it done... You have mentioned a few times that you want to put a halo in your stone to make it a lil bigger... so maybe do the halo and skip the stones on the band. Just a thought! You could probably have Leon do something like I described for just over 3k...

This one is great but without the halo...

AHAHAHAHH!
So BEAUTIFUL! Thanks Crooked Rock! I think our working budget is about 4000. I guess I didn''t think about Leon at all originally
because I thought it was bound to be over our budget.
Now it looks like I have another avenue to check out! That''s pretty fun and exciting!

Thanks!

OMGosh that is a fantastic budget!!! I think Scarlett''s ring was under 3k so you can def get something along the lines you want!!
When I met with him I chowed him a very similar setting, maybe it was that one, either way he loved it and it is kinda what mine is based on! He can def pull it off for you if thats what you want!

Also, just a small note, make sure that you love the setting with your own diamond. The setting in the picture has a very big diamond that has a beautiful high crown. I personally think a different diamond would look very different overall. I think part of the reason this setting is so attractive is the diamond in it. I just wanted to put it out there `incase` as Ive been down the road of getting something made up but not looking at the bigger picture!

Crooked Rock,
where can I see your ring, and scarlett''s??

Another question: All those glorious rings that I see on Leon''s site have HUGE center stones (if only... if only...)
Mine''s only a .92.

In your opinion, is it ridiculous to go all out on such an elaborate setting for a stone that size?

You might want to check out Greenlake as well. GLJW.com

I went the custom route and was actually very surprised by the price....in a good way though!

Great dogs by the way !

oh cool!
I need to occupy my busy brain! Thanks Pauly!
I love my danes. They are big cuddle bunnies.

Scarlett and I are both waiting on Leon to finish ours. mine should be done in by the end of the month and hers by the middle of May. She''ll post pics as soo as she gets it, and I will as soon as he proposes!

(Which means we''ll be seeing Scarlett''s first) But check out the Leon thread, Scarlett''s is based off tiger''s cushion ring.
Sharon makes a very valid point though. There is a seting on Leon''s site that the shank split 3 times and we told him we loved it. He pointed out that the stone in the pic was twice the size of mine and it wouldn''t look the same... We had considered that but thought with our size stone it would be fine... he insisted it wouldn''t be the same so we steered clear.
He does work with a lot of big stones but that doesn''t mean he won''t work with "normal" stones

... If you are really interested I would call him to discuss. I don''t see it as a wasteof money to spend a lot on the setting so long as you don''t plan on upgrading in a few years. If this is the stone you are planning on sticking with then go for it, but if you want to go bigger as soon as the budget allows then I would hold off til then... Sorry for the ramblin... hope it helps!

Hey 2Danes.... Just wondering if you were any closer to making a decision, or if you had contacted Leon?
