custom ring design- creative minds needed

Hi guys, looking for some creative ideas here.

I'm currently having a custom ring designed and want to add a little something to make it unique. I know that I want a cathedral solitaire with tapered shoulders and a very thin band. Can't really afford pave, and I do enjoy the clean look of the metal band (probably do a pave wedding band for extra sparkle).

I'm very tied to this sort of solitaire, but I don't want my ring to be a cookie cutter of every other ring out there, I want something that makes it MINE.

I'm playing with the idea of surprise stones, perhaps a stone other than diamond to make it more unique, but the surprise stones seem to be pretty popular currently, and im afraid it will still look kind of generic.

Another idea I've had is to have small diamond chips inlaid on both of the shoulders, so that when you are looking down at the ring, there is a small diamond on either side. But before I would go this route, I really need to see some examples, and I can't seem to find anything out there. Does anyone have any pics of something similar to what I'm describing?

Or any other ideas for how to make a solitaire unique without breaking the bank? (we're pretty much at our max budget already (past it actually lol) with the surprise stones factored in, so it would have to be something comparable in price).

yes, I'm thinking inset like that, but on a much thinner cathedral band. I could swear I've seen rings like I'm describing before but I can't seem to find anything online. I think I probably don't know the correct terms for what Im describing

This ring is very pretty. Not sure if a smaller round diamond would work as well as the flushset pears. But if you're going fully custom then your ringmaker should be able to give you a CAD mockup of your ideas, to see if you like it.

BTW, if a custom ring is in your budget then a stock solitaire ring with pave on the shoulders is also definitely in your budget.

Well I'd hate for you to go unique just for uniqueness sake. First and foremost you should get what you like,regardless of how common it is.

With that said, I totally understand the monotony of seeing the same ring over and over again. If you want unique settings, I could show you a million, but what style do you like?
Want it sleek and modern? How about an interesting texture? Maybe a different metal? Would you prefer a bezel over prongs?

Hey guys, thanks for the input. I think I'm getting an amazing deal on the custom work which is why we can afford it. Our total ring budget was originally supposed to be 2000, 1500 of which is going to the diamond. The jeweler is doing the custom cathedral setting with surprise stones in platinum for 680 + 40 to set the stone

Spectacular deal. Do you know how the jeweler plans to put the small diamonds into the band? 2mm is thin. Maybe fit a couple of 1.5 pointers on the shank.

I think that is a good representation tho, thanks. Even tho its not cathedral, it looks like the stones are mounted flush, would you agree?

Honestly, idk if he will or not. I've emailed him with the idea, but he hasn't gotten back to me with an answer yet. But yes, they will have to be very small in order to fit, which I'm fine with cuz the thin band is more important to me

Yes, it looks like they're flush mounted although I haven't seen the setting in person. I had a very similar Tacori setting, part of the sculpted crescent collection, and the shanks are 1.8mm wide, so very delicate.

Stick to a classic plain band -

the tiny tiny little stones you mention will not add much to the impact of the ring and will also be a dirt trap you will spend your life cleaning them.

That's a good point, I hadn't thought of that. Do you think the same is true for surprise stones as well then?
