Hello everyone,

I have had a few different jewelers offer to make me a custom platinum setting made specifically for the stone I select (I plan a large center diamond and two very small side diamonds). They have marketed themselves as saying that this is much better than buying an "off the rack" setting and that they use much higher quality materials.

Ok, so what the heck does that all mean?

What should I be looking for in a platinum setting? Any thoughts appreciated.

There''s a current thread in jewelry pieces called "what makes for a good piec of jewelry?"......look there for what the experts say!!!!

The biggest difference one custom ring to the next is in the finish and polish.
Both cost money because of the handwork involved.
Ask to see examples of their work and see how the finish is.
Lowest cost isnt always the best because its the finish work that often suffers.
The material costs are a small part of the overall cost when it comes to custom jewelery.
