Should custom milling work be completed on ring prior to setting of stones? I''m asking because I need milling work on a setting that has a lot of pave. Would the milling after stones being set loosen them. This kind of concerns me, seems like a lot of vibrating. Should I worry?
Milling for what reason? If you are talking about using hand held burs or gravers after stones are set, then yes, it is quite common. If you''re talking about cutting it on a computerized milling machine, then no, almost no one does this. In any case if the stones are properly set, then no amount of vibration will dislodge them. On the other hand if you end up bending the metal near where the pave is set, then you could have problems and need to reset some of them.
The setting from designer was supposed to have the milling work done. It unfortunately needs to go back because they forgot to do it. It''s located on the very thin gold strip around the pave and between the baguettes. The milling is simple horizontal ridges (very small) along this raised gold strip which add what I would call and antique look. Sounds like this shouldn''t be an issue.
