Hello.

I stumbled upon this site while researching diamonds and have been lurking for a week now. I''ve decided to post because I fell in love with a designer ring but the price tag is out of my budget. (My fiance and I still need money to pay for our wedding.) Anyway, I wanted to know if it would be less costly to have the ring custom made or just buy it from the designer. Here''s a picture of the ring.

Thanks.

Hello-

Have you checked into other designers who make this style of ring? I know Ritani makes a setting like this, and usually their prices are not so bad, and the workmanship and quality of their products are wonderful. I know Bailey Banks and Biddle and Pearlman''s jewelers, www. pearlmansjewelers.com carry Ritani- may be worth checking out. As far as other vendors such as Whitelflash making this setting for you, why dont you give them a call and get am estimate of approximate cost to make this setting? I am sure you can make modifications if you custom design it, for example, instead of a 3-sided pave style, you can get a 1-sided, which will be a lot less $$. I would definitley call around and price it out. It is lovely.

Hi Silverkae, I saw this setting which might be of interest to you. I have gone to knox before and was very satisfied with the quality of their work. This setting is a very reasonable price in my opinion...but it might not be close enough to what you are looking for. There is a radiant shaped diamond in the setting, but I bet an emerald shape would fit too.

Hi Dani and kcoursolle,

Thanks for the suggestions. Yes, I have been getting price quotes, but is a long process for me this week because the jewelers I''ve been in contact with are on the east coast and I''m on the west coast...so there''s usually a day delay between our email correspondences. I should call them, but since I''m at work and can''t use my phone, it''s email for now till the weekend when I can call them. So I''m going to check out KNOXJEWELERS and see how that goes.

Thanks

From what I have seen, if you like a specific designer ring then you should buy it. Custom jobs cannot copy another ring due to artistic copyrights. The research I have done here leads me to these statements:

A designer ring is best bought from the designer if it is exactly what you want. They have the experience and copyright for a specific design, so they can make a "cleaner" more precise ring for that particular style.

A custom ring cannot exactly duplicate a designer. But they can get close and you get to put in your own touches. Some ring makers will only stay within a specific set of parameters. Some ring makers may be better at certain designs (pave, halo, micropave etc.) than others. If you go custom, then shop a designer that has experience with the type of style you want. Also a good return policy helps.

Kcoursolle -- Thanks for posting the Knox jewelry site.

They have some cool settings, and as everyone knows I''m looking for a setting to fall in love with.

No problem, they were also awesome to work with by the way for a custom design. My custom rhr took a little longer than expected (7 weeks I think??), but everything was done according to specification and the detail on my ring is perfection. Brian knox was VERY attentive to my never-ending emails and questions.
