Calling all PSers, I need help/opinions, please!

My fiancé and I have decided to get an alternate setting (a halo) for our engagement ring! This is so that I can switch them out occasionally, to get different looks. Kind of like clothes for my AVC! Hehe.

And this is where I'm stuck. I cannot decide if I want to get the Tacori 2620 or custom-make one with the jeweler who custom-made my solitaire engagement ring. There are pros and cons to each selection.

Custom Halo Pros:
-has a delicate halo
-it's our unique ring with our personal elements in it
-will match our wedding band, which will be custom-made at the same jeweler
-will be a twin to our solitaire ring as well, so all 3 rings will be "a set"
-will definitely lay flush with my wedding band
-looks a little... less busy than the Tacori 2620

Custom Halo Cons:
-Not sure if it'll turn out as nice as the Tacori's craftsmenship (the solitaire turned out beautiful, but halos are a different thing)
-looks slightly less ornate/vintage than the Tacori 2620

Tacori Pros:
-Looks very vintage/ornage
-Guaranteed result of having a really nicely hand-crafted ring
-has a delicate halo
-has a unique "basket"

Tacori Cons:
-looks like it will sit too high on the finger
-can look a bit busy with ALL the detail going on
-not a whole lot of personalization (although we've asked and they've said it is possible to substitute the two small diamonds near the bottom of the band with our birthstones, one on each side)
-not sure if it'll sit flush with my wedding band due to the bulging basket

Here are some pictures of what the Custom Halo will look like, and I included a Tacori 2620 picture for reference.

Also, one thing I'm trying to detect is which Halo and the pave work show LESS metal. Could any of you PSers with a good eye give me your opinion on this?

Thank you everyone in advance!!! :D

Just adding a top down view of the Tacori 2620 for reference!

I have always loved the delicate sub halo on the 2620 and the basket detail.
Tough to improve on but you have to pick what you love.

In your circle of friends you will most likely be the only one with the Tacori 2620

Thanks for the response, ariel144! I think that's the problem I have: Not sure which I love more. ;))

There is a 2620 setting for sale at gog..maybe check and see if it can be resized and fit to your AVC?

Oh yes, we know that GOG carries the Tacori. We've contacted them and they've said they it can be done. So, we know it'll fit our AVC. It's just a matter of which option to choose (Tacori 2620 or Custom Halo), as both will be a perfect fit for the diamond. Thanks for the response, Pandabee!

How fun, Lenapie! I saw the title with your tag and couldn't believe you were getting your stone reset! I love your custom solitaire- but whatever- I 'get' needing a different outfit to wear. Your rock is stunning, I love it so much, and I have admired all the personal touches you and your fiancée put into the setting.

My thoughts- the tacori 2620 is ever so lovely... however... it is such a delicate halo... if I were doing what you are doing I might be tempted to really do a larger halo to really hit whatever it is that my solitaire was not doing for me. But shoot, if you have tried it on and love it on you, then go for it. That delicate setting quality is something your solitaire has so that just aspect might be 'you' and the style that suits you best.

My other thought is this- how feasible it is to switch out a stone? Is it easy? How many times can you do it without hurting the prongs? I think what you are considering setting wise are substantial purchases- tacori is high quality and pricey. What would you think of finding a preloved halo ring with a different stone altogether? Like a true antique or a colored stone?

Well, I'm excited and please do share the new setting and ring with us!

Thanks for all the good points, Apacherose! And thank you for your compliments. I saw your rose gold set and was drooling at it for a long time, too! Haha!

My fiancé and I are really attached to the stone he proposed to me with, which is why we'd rather have an alternate setting with the original stone in it. If we got another setting with another stone, we think that it'll be less meaningful to us, because the ring will be worn in replacement of the original engagement ring. Also, I'm picky about what types of cut I like paired with halos. I prefer the center stone to either be an AVC or an Asscher. At this point in time, we're not really looking into buying a new Asscher to put into this alternate setting.

As for the size of the halo, I understand what you're getting at. The delicate halo isn't a humongous difference than the solitaire, compared to a more substantial halo; however, my ring size is only 3.75, and we think that any halo bigger than either the custom one or the Tacori 2620 one, it will look too large.

I do agree with you point about how feasible it is to change out the settings from time to time. I don't see myself doing this every few months or something, maybe every few years? I haven't really thought that part out very thoroughly yet. That's kind of hypocritical of me to say, because I've only been wearing the solitaire for a few months and I'm thinking of re-setting the stone into a halo! It is kind of crazy, I admit! I'm just really drawn to the halos and I've always loved the delicate ones. And, I'm thinking with a delicate halo, it'll give the stone a little more oomph, if you get what I mean! :)

I voted custom, the Tacori is beautiful and delicate but it isn't going to give the same finger coverage that a larger custom made halo is going to give and I am a size wh@%* when it comes to anything :D

Thanks for voting, Arkieb1! :D We actually intend for the custom ring's halo to be more or less the same size as the Tacori's, since we both like the look of a more delicate halo. Just curious, given that info, would you still choose Custom, or would you think the Tacori would be better? And I'm not trying to sway the poll in either way, I'm just curious if both halos were the same size, would "design" appeals more. Thanks!

Well that all makes sense. :) So, I'm going to vote tacori, as it is just a ring I really like. They are both lovely and I can see an argument for doing the custom halo to kind of 'go' with your custom solitaire.... in any case, I am excited to see your reset!!! Have fun, good luck.

Hmmm, in that case I'd be shopping for a preloved Tacori that it fit into.

I love an avc in the 2620 so that is how I voted. Good luck choosing.

I would love anything in the Tacori 2620 and I would love AVC in anything so the two together would be  :lickout: and that is how I voted. :D

Thanks, apacherose! I'll definitely make a thread for it in the SMTB section when it's done! I'm so excited for this new project, too!

Also, thanks Rena7 and Diamondbug for voting and giving me your opinions!
