Hello all! I''ve been reading pricescope religiously for the past week or so, looking at everyone''s rings and getting some great ideas. Now, I''ve got a question for you. My fiance and I are in the process of having my ering custom made by a (sort of) local jeweler... he''s pretty bossy and arrogant, traits we unfortunately did not discover until after putting down our $2000 deposit and giving him the diamond we intend to use for the "headlight" stone on the front. We''re going with a sim from Wink for a few years since he''s in pharmacy school and I am starting med school in a month; we''re poor now, but I am sentimental and wanted to always wear the original engagement setting, so it will be nice, platinum, handcarved, etc. The sim stone I selected is 9mm by 7mm (approx. 2.5 cts equivalent to diamond?) radiant, and due to some confusion and miscommunication by my jeweler, we''re purchasing diamond traps for the side from him. (We agreed on white zircon, he ordered white sapphire at a much higher price w/o my consent, and when I refused to purchase it he told me I had to buy the sidestones from him, and he refused us a refund we asked... we really need a lawyer I think!) Anyway, with a radiant cut, what do you think would be best; step-cut or brilliant trapezoids? The style of the ring is a thin, millegrained semibezel for the center stone, and the band is going to be very ornate and engraved on every possible flat surface, in a sort of antique style, with the trapezoids set almost flush into the band next to the center stone, rather than raised w/ prongs.
So, in conclusion... step cut or brilliant traps? Any opinions appreciated.
