Greetings all-

I am looking at buying an e-ring online. I know that I want a solitaire setting, wider band, with a half-bezel set diamond. I also want to have some custom engraving done on the side of the band (trinity knot on either side of the stone). Is this at all possible to accomplish online? It seems that online dealers (yes, even WF) have a very limited amount of settings to choose from, and I don''t see any way of getting the engraving done from an online broker.

After the ring is purchased, who could I trust to clean it on a regular basis that I could trust? I am planning to purchase an ultrasonic cleaner for the daily grease factor, so is a professional cleaning even necessary?

Thanks in advance for all your help.

I would recommend that you give WF a call and ask them, then you will get it straight from the horse''s mouth so to speak

As for the ultrasonic, it will keep it spotlessly clean, but you will need to take it to a jeweller every 6-12 months to inspect the stone/setting for damage (or if you drop it

) and for them to give it a polish to remove the surface scratches and marks. No amount of cleaning will remove these, and rings always look stunning when they have a fresh polish.

I''m a little leary of buying a stone that I never see loose due to the inability to get a good evaluation of certain aspects such of the cut, and especially the transparency of the diamond. Has anyone ever been burned by this? What happens if the diamond isn''t as good as you hoped for with a place like WF? Are prices negotiable?

I figured I would take the ring in to a jeweler regularly for cleaning, but my question is who? Who can I trust to take care of the ring since I did not buy it from them? Will any jeweler do?

That is why there is a return policy. If you see the stone and you do not like it, simply return it for a refund or exchange. I don''t think the price is negotiable.

Just talked to someone at WF, and the engraving can happen, though it will put me well over budget, so it''s not possible with them. The setting seems to be the huge limiting factor, since WF goes semi-custom with all of those to begin with. Are there any online retailers that use 14k white gold?

Maybe I wear my ignorance/confusion on my forehead, the person at WhiteFlash seemed to be bothered by me.

I got an existing ring of mine engraved by Greenlake Jewelers; their engraving is, IMO, the best. (I''m a real nut about antique jewelery and am SUPER picky about engraving.) Theirs is almost as good as the best antique engraving.

You could definitely have it done long distance- they emailed me the design before I OK''d it, and were very helpful... they also have great pics on their website but the pics don''t quite do the engraving justice.

If you are very picky about what the engraving looks like and want the best possible, I''d recommend them; beautiful engraving is their specialty.

If your design you want engraved is more basic and you aren''t really picky about the engraving, I''d just get it done through WF. I''m sure theirs is better than most.

Kansas, I''m sorry you felt that way. We deal all the time with clients who are trying to learn about what makes a great diamond, and we''re happy to help them with that information.

I don''t know who you spoke with initially, but I''d suggest that you might want to call to speak with Lesley. She has a wealth of information and has a great way of setting people at ease as they learn, and I''m sure she''d be more than happy to help you and see what options may exist within your budget range.
