My jeweler talked to us about making a custom wedding band to go with my engagement ring. Before we go back I thought it would be prudent to ask you guys some of my questions!
The idea is that he would take a mold of my ring and use the mold to make a band that would sit flush with the ring. I have a few concerns with this though. The main one is that he said he would have to have all the diamonds taken out of the setting before the mold can be made. My ring is an antique so that scares me a bit!
The second concern is there is a small diamonds on the basket that I think might rub against the band. I would imagine this would cause wear over time. Should I ask for the band to be made with a tiny space so it won't rub? similarly, would rubbing from the band hurt the engraving? It is engraved all around on the sides.
Third concern is the materials. Being an antique I think my ring is 90% plat 10% irid. Should I ask that the band be made with the same composition so it will have a similar hardness? Are diamonds that small going to look different if my band has modern round brilliants and my ring has OEC's? The melee on my ring is tiny so I'm not sure if you would notice a difference.
Is there anything else I should ask him or do?
