Cushions and Asschers

Hello everyone, I''ve been lurking here for about a month or so but I think I''ve become obsessed enough to come out of hiding now

. My BF of 2 yrs and I have recently started looking at e-rings and I''m surprised to find out exactly how overwhelming it is! I thought I knew exactly what I wanted, but after going to try on rings at the so- called "maul" stores ( which I do not plan on dealing with after reading all of your posts), my beloved EC''s don''t look good on my short little fingers at all! So after looking at tons and tons of pictures online and reading these forums until I couldn''t hold my eyes open anymore, I think I have decided on either Cushion or Asscher cuts. I''m leaning more towards the Cushion because of the added sparkle of the faceting, but those Asschers are just so gorgeous! I know I will be looking for a 1 - 1.15 carat stone that is E-G color, VVS1-VS2 clarity and Ideal cut. What I need help with is the depth, table and measurements of these stones...I am totally clueless about that. What do I need to look for? As far as settings go, I have totally fallen in love with halos thanks to PS

, but I will post more on that later. I''m still collecting pictures of my favorites. Right now I think I just need to educate myself more on the actual diamond( actually educate my BF, but he''s one of those "whatever u like hunny" kind of people). Thanks for any help you can give me!

I have one thought about cushions vs. asschers which you might want to consider. While asschers are my first love (I have one), they do tend to be deep and face up smaller.

If visual size is an issue for you, you might want to keep this in mind...

Asschers or cushions- both very different looks- have you seen them in person yet? Go and see for yourself which look you like better...both will look awesome with a halo- I love that look!

Hello again, and thanks to everyone who replied. I went and looked at some stones and settings last night at a local jeweler here in Charlotte, NC. Although the settings were not exactly what I was looking for ( some of the diamonds in the pave were a brownish color and cloudy ), I did get an idea of what a halo actually looks like on my finger and they were gorgeous! As far as stones go, I was mesmerized by the deepness of the Asscher cuts. Widget brought up the visual size of these stones, but I''m hoping that the fact that I have short/small fingers ( sz 5 ) and that it will be set in a halo will help the size issue a bit. My BF also seemed to really like the halo too, which is a first lol. I found the following set at Signed Pieces...what does everyone think?

LizzieC has that exact one-there are pics somewhere! She still comes around sometimes, so maybe you can ask her about it. As far as I know, everything was great with it-she didnt have any problems...Good luck!
