hey all...1st post! I need some help. my BF and I are looking at cushions. I''ve seen a bunch, but at the momemt this is my front runner. I''m a little concerned about the depth, is this too high? I know cushions are different then rounds (I was actually previously engaged, albeit for only 3 mos, and wore a round), but I''m concerned that his will look smaller then it is when set. Thoughts?

1.21 Cushion Modified Brilliant, G VS2
Depth-73
Table-59
Girdle - Med to ETK
Culet - none
Polish - Good
Symmetry- good
Flouresence - none
length to width is around 1 x 1.10, i believe

thanks for any help/insight you can provide!!

It might be a beautiful stone, but I think I''d keep looking.
I''d want something with a depth in the lower 60s.
This stone is going to lose spread, look smaller than it''s weight.
Do you have someone helping you look? A dealer?

Scintillating...

i''ve been working with a few jewelers. one is a friend of a friend. but i feel like they know less about cushions then i do after all my reading here and the last few months of online tutorials. i brought up differences in cushion brilliants and modified cushion brilliants to one, and all he could muster was that "cut grading on fancy''s is not as dependable as it is with rounds". I was like, yeah, that''s not so much what I''m talking about here.

maybe, i should get in touch with Mark T.

Patches-

I would keep looking for your cushion- this one does not impress me at all. Most of the weight will be towards the bottom of the diamond, making this stone appear signnficantly smaller than its carat weight. I agree with you- definitely get in touch with Mark T.- we bought my stone from him, and although it is not a cushion, Mark definitely knows how to pick the nice ones and he is so fair and very nice too! He will teach you everything you need to know about these stones so that you are able to make a smart purchase. Did you read his interview (in Rocky Talk) with Leonid? They talk all about cushions- it is very interesting! Plus, it is nice for people that have never met him to be able to put a face to a name. Good luck!

yea, i was just hoping to get a rule of thumb on cushion depth. you guys have generally confirmed my concerns on spread. if anyone has an avergae range for optimal cushions, that would be great. granted, i''m sure alot of that is personal preference.
