I'm looking for a decent cushion for an engagement ring and like that googoldgold.com is does the work up front and gives you asets, etc right there to judge for yourself. On their site right now, I like these 2 cushions. Can you give me some feedback on them? Also, has anyone seen some comparable diamonds elsewhere that I should look at?

Those two cushions represent VERY different styles of cushion. The first is GOG's proprietary August Vintage Cushion, which is cut with large facets to look like an antique stone, only one cut to ideal proportions. The second is known as a square Hearts and Arrows. As the name suggests, it is a square version of an ideal cut hearts and arrows round stone. I'm not personally a fan of either, nor am I one who loves H&A stones, but if I had to choose between the two, I'd stick with the August Vintage.

Careful on the cushion search, it is a slippery slope of learning more than any layperson should ever know about stones (I just completed my two month journey for a cushion). Good luck!

I am currently on the cushion hunt too. As Twizz implies, I think the first step is to determine what style of cusion you're looking for -- do you prefer the "antique" broad-faceted, chunky look (i.e., the August Vintage), or the square hearts & arrows, or the modern-faceted look. Good Old Gold's videos are a good place to see the differences.

If you're looking for the chunky cushions, the only other vendor that I've found that has a good inventory is engagement rings direct. Their "A Cut Beyond" have a similar look to the August Vintages. For what it's worth, I've found that ERD's prices are a little better.

GOG has several videos that compare AVCs with square cushion H&As. both are beautiful but have very different appearances...I would look at the videos and see what you prefer!

ETA here are some videos

I have a square cushion H&A and there are MANY avcs on PS...if you search you can find lots of pics but I think the videos are a great tool as well.

Thanks for the video links. I checked some out and think I prefer the august vintage, especially because I'm planning on a vintage setting. Any problems with the vintage that I posted?

I think it's beautiful. Have you asked about the inclusions? You can see them in the microscope shot but not sure what it would look like from a real life distance.

I have not but that's what I would be worried about with that stone. Here is a slightly smaller vs2 G for about the same price though. If the larger stone is eye clean, that's what I would lean towards though.

I checked out engagement rings direct and they don't appear to have any rocks in my price range.

You should give Mark or Chris (at ERD) a call and give them your specs and they will find stones for you!! They are wonderful to work with!

I inquired about the SI2 that i mentioned in the first post and was told that it is "eye clean unless you're looking for the inclusion". I guess that would be a no then.

This one is similarly priced but for some reason does not seem to look as nice as the other.http://www.goodoldgold.com/diamond/8583/

Hi burk,

That last one you linked to IS as nice as the others. The others you linked to were just done with the new photography.

Also, when we are asked about how "eye clean" a diamond is we'll always give you the straight scoop since we have these in house and can look at them live. When you get the comment that it is eye clean, that is according to the general definition of the term eye clean. Ie. Nobody looking at it is going to see it. You would have to sit and stare at it to try and find it. Ie, it's not easy.

Contrary to popular belief we also carry and have access to generic cushions as well and of every variety you could possibly think of. One advantage is we can show you how they will all look side by side under even lighting as well as a comprehensive gemological examination which we publish online.

Kind regards,
Jonathan

Thanks for the info. I will investigate further.

Any feedback on this cushion from ERD?
