Cushion Question

Hello All,
First off, thank you all...the website and your posts are very educational. I''m 26, living in Chicago, and just beginning to shop for my girlfriend''s ring. I just saw a very "firey" cushion cut stone (she likes the Tiffany Legacy) and I would appreciate any feedback regarding its GIA report as follows:
Shape: Cushion Brilliant
Measurements: 6.32 x 5.41 x 3.49
Carat Weight: 0.85 carat
Depth 64.5
Table 56
Girdle: Medium to Slightly Thick, faceted
Cutlet: None
Polish: Very Good
Symmetry: Very Good
Clarity VS2
Color: F
Flourescence: None
Comments: pinpoints not shown

Any feedback regarding the depth/table percentages and where they fall as far as "cut quality" would be appreciated. I saw the stone under regular lighting and it was like looking into a prism (fire, right?). . . am I on the right track? Thanks in advance for any help!!!!

Cushie: I think that from the specs it seems to fall into the parameters that have been recommended to me -- mind you i am NOT an expert. if you liked it when you saw it, i think that might be the very best guideline...good luck in your search.

I know, it has a higher l/w ratio...she likes it a litter better than the square. The jeweler I''ve been working with can replicate the setting exactly (I''ve seen examples), and it looks beautiful.
My question was about the "fire" of the diamond. I will continue to shop, but in a cushion, is this is a desirable trait? I suppose it is due to the low table/deep cut. Thanks!

Hi

You described the cushion you saw a s "fiery". As you may know, numbers aren''t always the most important aspect when buying a fancy cut stone. The most important thing, in my opinion is to see the stone in person and if you like it and all the 4 C''s are within you comfort range, then go for it. A F VS2 is a great combination!

In my opinion, and I am no expert, spread is also important. The thickness of the girdle and the depth may make the stone face up a lot smaller than what you will see with a ideal RB. You can do a database search for cushions in the 0.85 ct range and see how the spread compares. (It looks good to me)

That said, the numbers on your stone looks good.

. One of PS most well-known cushions - MoreMoreMore''s has a depth of 64.1% and a table of 56%. You can see it HERE. Since I haven''t seen her stone in person, I can''t say if it is fiery or not.

Do you have a facet pattern? In my opinion, the facet pattern also plays a role in how the stone performs. Most importantly though, is that you like what you see!

LOL....Oh it's firey alright. An amazing specimen if I do say so myself LOL...I will only buy these types of cushions in the future for myself b/c I'm so smitten....

It will be very different from the Legacy stone, simply because the cut is so different. However, it sounds like a more brilliant stone to me, if it is indeed a modern cushion. I have my suspicions that the Legacy (much as I love it) is very shallow. I don''t know how much light return it has, but no one has posted any tests to prove it one way or the other.

on the contrary, the "legacy" averages around 65% td., not shallow at all.
