Thank you for the compliment kcoursolle. I don''t have a thread in the show me the ring section. If you search my name, you will find another thread with some more pics. I am getting anxious. I have been waiting patiently for 4 months and next Friday is my proposal.
How ironic. Your situation is like mine. I am almost done making the ring box. (Will post up pics of the box after the proposal). Friday, 6-8-07, 11 - 11:30 am. I am so excited, anxious, and nervous. I hope everything comes together.
Its 10:50 pm. I came out of work and headed straight to the machine shop. Just got home from the machine shop. I will take pics soon and show you my progress. I only have 3 more days to complete the box.
As promised, here are the pics of the ring box that I designed and getting made. I used to be a machinist and thought it would be significant for me to make my girlfriend a box for her ring. This thing should be industrucible. J/K. After work, I would go to my friend''s shop and have help him me get this thing worked on. There is more than one made because, some many mistakes are made with the program when machining. I had five initally and now only have 2 left. One will be used for my proposal, the other box will be given to my jeweler, as promised. They are still incomplete at this moment in time. I still have to clean up the surface, polish it, and put some detail to it. Tomorrow, I will work on the inside (where the ring will be placed). Still have to buy the material. (Either suede, velvet, etc. ??). I am seriously running out of time. Friday is the date. Wish me luck. So tired! 3:00 am. I have to go to sleep or else I will not make it to work tomorrow.
Picture shows the almost finished product. Material is still raw and unfinished. Everything is metal. The new box is actually smaller than the temporary box that my jeweler gave me.
The steps I had to go through:
Raw material
Designing & programming - Machining process
Bottom half, after it was machined. Still not completed yet. Still has alot of material to cut for the bottom.
Honestly, that is the most amazing gesture and the box itself is it''s own beautiful, thoughtful gift!
As if being presented with a ring wouldn''t make me cry enough, in a handmade box like that, with all the time and thought that went into it, I would probably be so overwhelmed I''d collapse!
I think suede or velvet would be great inside. I personally like suede because it gets less dusty and the ''matte'' finish of the suede really shows off the shiny bling!
Good luck to you. Don''t forget to post pics of the ring in the box...and of course the ring on the finger! But first, get some rest!!!
