I started this link a few days ago
https://www.pricescope.com/community/threads/just-started-shopping-spec-help-please.62582/
and was completely set on a round H&A from Good Old Gold.

While I''m still convinced I am going to get my stone at GOG, my BF and I started talking about cushions, vs. round.

My question is this: I picked out a gorgeous .73ct round with great specs, IS, etc. I think it''s going to look really large for it''s actual size.

Does anyone have a .75-ish cushion to post? I''d love to see what it looks like compared to my round. Will a cushion always look smaller than an ideal RB? I would expect that it probably does, but now I''m so confused my head is spinning!

I''m trying not to drive anyone crazy during this process, but I never realized how obsessive I could be get over something!
THANKS!

Sure do. My cushion is a .81, dimensions 5.94x5.16. Rounds def. have more spread than cushions.

Here''s one to get you started. Not the best picture, but it gives you a good idea of the size. I have a size 5.5 finger, ring is a 6:

There are some much better pictures of my ring in these two threads:

https://www.pricescope.com/community/threads/more-pics-w-fire-of-my-cushion-for-cehra-the-investigator.60856/

https://www.pricescope.com/forum/show-me-the-ring/my-new-lil-cushion-in-ritani-t60606.html

If you want finger coverage, a round is the way to go. But cushions are much more unique, and I love mine.

ALSO keep in mind that rounds are a tad more expensive, so you might be able to get a slightly bigger cushion for the same $ to compensate a BIT for the size, but not completely.

...You double posted, and I messed up big time, by replying to this thread on your prior link. Yikes! This is what happens when you''re at work and all distracted by the bling!

LOVE your ring. LOVE IT.

My heads gonna explode from all the options. Although I think I have it narrowed down now, I thought I''ve thought that before.

Is it always this agonizing? (Fun, but agonizing!)

YES! I thought my then BF would kill me by the time we had finally selected something.

You''ll figure out what''s best for you, don''t worry! And regardless of what you pick as long as you pick a stone with a great cut it will blow 99% of the stones around out of the water anyway!

Hi Winnie!

I know...isn''t this crazy?

I''ve changed my mind almost every day! I think part of my problem is that I haven''t had a chance to see anything up close and personal since I''ve been traveling so much. You''re right--I need to go in person and fall in love with "the one", whether it''s cushion a round or who knows what else!

It''s not easy deciding on something so important when there are so many amazing and beautiful choices.

Ohhhh, that "Jessica" just kills me! I''ll be making a trip to see Mark soon, and also want to get to GOG, too. I''m lucky I''m local--I don''t know how anyone does this online...My head''s gonna explode!

Neat Freak,

It''s true, I feel so "informed" now, that I''m sure I''ll get something really beautiful.

They say ''knowledge is power'', but personally, I think it''s making me a little nutty!

Wouldn''t it just be easier to head to my local Zales or --gasp!-- Kay Jeweler''s, point to the case, say ''that''s pretty!" and plunk down the credit card??

PS has spoiled me for the others!

Nah, just head over to GOG with the credit card! I can promise you, that will be easy and MUCH safer!

so how much smaller would the cushion look compared to the carat weight of a round? for example if you had a 1.5 carat cushion. how would that compare with a 1.5 carat round?

it would depend on the overall dimensions. a well cut 1.5ct round measures about 7.4mm and a cushion is around 6.4mm but it can vary widely depending on the overall shape (lxw ratio)

My cushion is a right hand ring, it''s 0.75 carats but I think the setting makes it look like a 1 carat!

Please dont head over to your nearest Zales or Kay!! You are too informed now for that!!!!

Go and see Mark...he will totally hook you up. Good Old Gold gets rave reviews here too, so I guess work with whomever you click better with and whose location is more convienent for you. Although Mark is in the heart of the diamond district, so he can get stones for you at the drop of a dime!!!

Good luck!!!

I guess it''s hard to compare any two stones really then huh?
I think I''m going thru DSS...The more I look at my cushion (it''s a 1.5 carat), the more it seems to shrink!

it''s hard to compare stones that can vary in measurement like the fancies do. rounds are easy to compare!

maybe you could try putting your cushion away for a week or so, then when you see it again, it will look bigger!

Yeah...the curse of cushions is that they face up quite a bit smaller than rounds sometimes. But they sure are gorgeous! If you want THE most spread for your buck pears, marquise, and ovals are the way to go.

haha...yeah...true. I should stop focusing on it too much

yeah..cushions are unique and gorgeous. that''s why i wanted one to begin with. Yeah, I''ve noticed pears look huge for their carat weight!
Too bad i discovered this forum after I got my ER!

What do you think?

Saw this stone on ERD...I want to go in an look in person, but off hand, if this stone is eye-clean, is it a winner? Just trying to get all the numbers straight so I know what I''m doing when faced with all the gorgeousness that will be presented when I''m there.
THANKS!

i''m not expert..but from all the reading i''ve done here on PS...you can''t tell if it''s eye clean by the written specs. I believe you have to see the stone in person to judge if it''s eye clean.

hi all- beebrisk- my cushion is 1.72 and the round in tthe original jessica is 1.5- the jessica round stone looks much bigger than mine...fyi....

go to mark and see the cushions and rounds in one place- u won''t be sorry but the round will be more pricey...they just are...

Beebrisk, I don''t mean to be off putting, but DON''T BOTHER. Mark doesn''t hand select the stones offered on his website, and he WILL hand select some for you when you are ready to buy. So honestly, don''t bother. I don''t think he has steered anyone wrong yet.

Not to mention the fact that you should know that we can''t tell ANYTHING about cushions by just the numbers. So just give your brain a rest and let Mark pick some for you after you tell him what you''re looking for. He really is awesome and friendly, and he has no problem picking some stones for you.

Thanks folks!

NeatFreak,
I had no idea about the stones listed on the ERD website. Gary from ERD has already contacted me and we are going to set up an appointment after the long weekend. I''m taking your advice, chilling out a bit and will wait until I get over to see everything live and up-close!
Yea!

Winnie,
I can''t wait to meet Mark...But even more, I can''t wait til that little baby is on my finger.

great- i think you are driving yourself nuts b/c u haven''t seen anything in person- this is the best route- mark....he''s the best!

Ohhh you''re going to have so much fun. ERD is great. If you see Mark tell him Callie says hello!

Yup! I think it''s gonna be "kid in a candy store" time for me...I''ll send Mark your regards Neat and Winnie. I''ll be running home from 5th Ave to post the news sometime in the next week, hopefully.

Thanks to all for your support and info..it''s been so great!

inlove8. My friend has a 1.23 RB and his looks as big as my 1.52 cushion. I will attach a picture below with the ring tested on my pinky. I have been planning and patiently waiting for almost 4 months now. 2 more weeks until my proposal.

Here are the picture of my cushion:

Tested on my pinky Ring size is 4.5: Yes, I have skinny fingers.

Good luck with your cushion search. I am very happy I got to exchange my previous buy for the cushion. I had already paid for a princess cut (1.5), then found out the next day that my girlfriend loves the cushion alot more than the princess. My jeweler was kind enough to let me do a trade, good thing was, I got some money back. Thumbs UP! to Oscar and his staff at Oscar Design Jewlers.

Awesome buying experience.

Beautiful ring Jcu!!! Do you have a thread in the show me the ring section? I''d love to see some more pics!
