Most cushions I have seen have been in high 50% range with depths in the mid to high 60% range.

My jeweler called today with a stone that has a 62.4% depth and 63% table

any issue with this right off the bat? Is this not typical for what many consider a quality stone?

Its a cushion brilliant, 8 star pavilion main facet pattern, 3.01 G, VS2. Nice spread and almost square (1.03 lw ratio).

Thanks in advance!

I've seen some really nice looking cushions with tables larger than their depths. Can't think of who at the moment... But you get good spread with a larger table, so that's a win!

Like Indira said though, you really can't go by numbers on cushions. If it looks good to you, then it's good, that's all you need to know!

ETA: Oh yeah, are you looking for square? A BM jeweler told me once that square cushions are the best cushions...not the case at all. Just in case you were misled like they tried to mislead me!

if you know any PSers with pics would love to check them out. I have been looking for squarish up to 1.13 l/w ratio. square is fine for me.

my big issues is whether a stone with 63% table and 62.5% depth will look bad. I mean they are almost the same but many threads here mention that usually means less sparkle and life. But tonight I found a pic of angelainjapan''s harry winston cushion and it looks great and also has depth and table of 63%. so if HW is picking these, they cant all be that bad.

if anyone has more thoughts on this would love to hear them. thanks!!!

I think I''ve said this to you in a different thread today

You CANNOT judge a cushion by the numbers, like, at all. You need to look at it, or have a Cushion expert who you trust look at it for you.
