I know cushion popularity is increasing, but I was wondering how many of you see many of them out in the real world? I''ve loved cushions for years and am kind of sad that they are getting so trendy (still want one though!), but I rarely see many in my area (Indiana). Only 1 of my friends has one (and let me tell you, they are ALL getting engaged!!), and she said I was the only person she knew that actually knew what it was when I looked at it.

I see lots of cushions here on PS, but I was wondering if that was just because we are such a big diamond community here. How many of you see cushions out and about in your area on a regular basis? Just curious! Thanks in advance :)

I live in Nashville and I''ve seen no one with a cushion. 2 of my friends have them, one lives in NY and the other lives here but moved here from Chicago. Same goes for rings with halo''s, we see them every where on PS but I hardly see anyone with them in my normal life.

I see them in high end stores, but never on a real person. Seattlites tend to go for rounds and princesses. I saw a big ol'' pear once and got all excited. Haha. An asscher once too haloed, but that''s about it!

Fellow cushion lover/owner here... I live in Chicago and only saw one years ago. I''m glad I don''t see many because I like to have something unique. Most of the people I know and work with have rounds or princesses.

I am a cushion owner & live in Wisconsin. I''ve never seen another cushion other than at a few jewelry stores.
I''d have to say that even while travelling, I mainly see rounds and princess the most and never cushions.

hum....i think i know one person besides myself that has a cushion...most people i know go for rounds or princess...but i fell in love with cushions the moment i saw them...

I''ve seen ONE (in a hair salon) in Spring Hill FL.

I only have one friend who has a cushion, though I have seen a couple of coworkers with cushions. I thought I saw a woman today who had one, but while I was non-chalantly trying to get a closer look, I noticed it was a radiant. For me, cushions can sometimes be hard to spot. I think I'll see one, but it turns out ot be an oval, radiant or sometimes even a round in a cushion shaped halo or something (my previous stylist had a round in a cushion-shaped halo). I did see several when I was e-ring hunting, but they were all modern cushions. I wish I could see more of the chunky vintage variety!

To be honest, before I started even thinking about engagement rings everything to me was either "round", "square", or "weird." LOL

There''s a possibility that people have cushions and that I have ran into them but I would not have noticed. I did spot an EC in the elevator at work the other day and was very excited that I knew it was an EC instead of that it was a "weird" stone

OMG, that''s too funny! I''m in Wisconsin, and have not seen any cushions....lot of round and strangely enough, quite a few marquise.....a couple princesses. and a friend with one AMAZING asscher.

I also live in Indiana, and I have a cushion. I have never run into anyone else IRL that has a cushion. Likewise, nobody has ever known that mine is a cushion, most think it''s an oval until they look closely. Before we purchased my stone, we looked at some B&M stores to see what kind of cushion we liked. We could only find two stores that even carried them, and I think each store had only 2 in their inventory (and they were poor examples of cushions).

So.... I don''t think you need to worry about cushions becoming too popular and "trendy"! Yes, you hear a lot about them on PS, but this is definitely not an accurate represenation about what the rest of the worls knows about diamonds!

Indy- Just curious, what would you say the average size of a ER diamond is in Indiana? I was curious when I read the thread that people put the averages for the area they are in, but I didn''t see any for around us!

Everyone else- Glad to see that cushions don''t seem to becoming TOO popular IRL!

Thanks and more input is welcome!

We have yet to run into someone else with a Cushion. Most people who ask about the ring (family, friends etc) have never heard of a cushion, so FI or I will give a bit of the history of the shape etc.

I''ve only seen a few scary ones in chain mall stores and two knockouts around town while visiting NY. I see ECs and halos now and then here in Ohio, maybe 1/2 dozen times a year.

My friend's rings are split almost equally with rounds and emerald cuts. Only one friend has a cushion.

Walking around town I see almost an even split of round and princess cuts.

I''ve yet to see one IRL.

Hmmm... I would say that most of my friends'' rings are around the 1 carat mark, but I would say that''s larger than the average in Indiana. Most people I work with probably have about 1/2 carat, and I would guess that is about average around here.

I live in NYC and have only seen 1 person wearing a cushion. Since I got engaged, I''m always on the lookout though. Numerous people have asked my fiance'' what kind of stone that is. It''s kind of cool when people have to ask, I hope that doesn''t change, but to your point they definitely seem to be on the rise. At least among pricescope !

I like the name cushion. Sounds so comfy and lovely! Anyway, I have never seen one, though I don''t really look at rings (I know, I''m dysfunctional or something...) I certainly don''t have any friends with one.

I see rounds and princess cuts, and an occasional marquise, but usually among the older crowd. I have seen some recently engaged gals getting halos, which are lovely!

I want a Trillion ring myself, and have never seen one in person (which thrills me!) But PS has me swooning over step cut diamonds! I am DYING to see an asscher or emerald cut diamond IRL!

I wonder if the "non-traditional" styles are more popular in NYC or CA or something? I am in NC...

I have never seen a cushion worn in real life. I have seen them in jewerly stores, however.

PSers are so way ahead of the curve!

I am in Sydney Australia. My cushion is at the jewelers get set as we speak! When hunting around and doing research allllll and I mean alll the B&M stores carried are Rounds and Princesses and they have no idea about hearts and arrows! When I asked if they carried cushion cuts, they would look at me as if I was speaking another language, I would walk away with out saying a word.

I found 2 jewelers that had some cushions in there inventory! In terms of Halo''s I have seen a few round brilliant halos in stores that are a bit higher then your B&M''s and only 1 cushion Halo in a store!

I am having my cushion setting custom made at Cerrone, which is a high end Sydney jewelery store in the same style as Leon Mege 811 adriana, but with a few slight changes!! I am sooo excited!

and.. I have never seen a cushion grace the fingers of anyone in Sydney and believe me!! I look! lol

I live near Seattle, but at work in the summer, well over half the people I see are tourists from out of state. So I get a pretty good slice of everything, including folks from out of the country. I see tons of rounds, a decent number of marquises, and some princesses, and the occasional antique cut like an OEC or transitional. Maybe a handful of emerald cuts. Never seen a cushion. Or an asscher. I''ve seen a decent number of antique settings on older women and a few on younger, and some halos too; most of the halos have been on really small stones, and especially on princess cuts.

(To digress a bit, two days ago I saw an enormous princess cut in yellow gold- four, five carats?- sadly, it was pure frozen monkey spit... even across the counter I could see it was one big inclusion. One thing is for sure- well cut diamonds are in the minority, and clean ones are rare too.)

I love that you give the history, I''m sure I will too. Even now when I talk about cushions (even though I don''t have mine yet) I always tell people that the Hope Diamond was a cushion cut- that usually gives a little reference as to what they are!

Bliss: PS''ers are SO ahead of the curve! I love it!
