First of all thanks to everyone on this forum .. I've received lots of information ..

I've read everything there was one round H and A and found the stone i wanted... then a few days ago my GF said she wanted a Cushion.. My heart dropped. :angryfire: :angryfire: .. Now i'm learning about Cushion Cut... i'm leaning towards.. a square...

I need a Cushion stone
Cushion Cut of 1.0 to 1.20 size and a Color grade of D~F and Still a Si or better and both symmetry, polish of excellence with Hearts and Arrow?

Nothing is set in stone other than the fact i need something to propose with...

Thanks.... in Advance ...

I'd take a look at the August Vintage (AVC) at GOG as well. They are a vintage style cut that is very popular around here right now, and it's a cut that you aren't likely to see often so your fiances e-ring will be unique in that sense. And they are gorgeous ( I'm singing the gorgeous part! ;)) )

Forgot to mention my budget is under 7 k for the stone...

I like the links from above

well you can definitely get a non-H&A cushion in your budget. do you know what kind of cushion she prefers? if you have any pictures that would be helpful, or the video is really good at explaining the types of cushions

I'll have to do some investigation .. I will report back

just found out she wants a square versus a rectangular shape.. the continues ..

Sorry i've been out of town.. and starting to head back...

the Canadian stone looks amazing....

do you know what kind of cushion she wants (besides square?) I ask because cushions can have a variety of appearances. Is there a particular cushion ring she likes?

the canadian stone is beautiful but would not be considered a cushion because of its straight edges.

thats all the info i got from her... i don't think she knows herself.. I've been a big fan of the round HA so i thought i can get away with getting her a jubilee cut

would you perhaps consider showing her some of the videos so she can see what she likes?

After watching the youtube http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1O7H8E_MYRMvideo on cushion cuts.. i 'm leaning towards

jubilee cut HA from GOG /Cushion Square Hearts and arrow cut /( or modern cut with the best optics)
1 caret or higher
G color or higher
VG symmetry or higher
VG Polish or higher
Si 2 Clarity unknown factor
Price of 7500 or 8000 with setting (solitaire white gold /platinum /palladium 2mm band)

I hope this will help me find the best stone for the money...

Have you seen the quadex from BGD? Its got H&A but cut corners. Unfortunately the only thing that will fit in your
budget is a J colored stone.

This is higher color but under 1 carat.

I think you might have a hard time keeping in your budget. Any branded stone that it is 1 carat in a G color or
higher...that is a nice stone is probably going to be over budget.

Edit - you will probably have better luck staying in your budget with a modern cushion brilliant.

Edit again ....just wanted to post this ring (gorgeous). Its a J colored quadex in a halo setting.

I saw this one on JA that looked nice.

Here are a few others I found...

Or you could just work with someone like GOG that will bring stones in like you are interested in.

EDIT - I dont think this is exactly what you are looking for but I thought I'd throw it out there.

BGD's Quadrex Stone and the Square Hearts and Arrows from GOG are the two that come to mind. Good luck!

WHat are the opinions about this stone..

Is it going to be eye clean with the nake eye? the sales person says it is.. but the image at GOG makes it look scratchy on the surface. I feel that the optics are going to be great but I don't want her friends to point out the inclusions ..

Also there is no refund for the setting ... So what should I do.. i mean she might like or not like the simple solitaire setting,,,
Should i have it set ??? because the cheapest setting is 250 for white gold
Can i propose with just a rock... :appl:

Thanks to everyone...

the BGD's Quadrex Stone looks great but out of my price range... I would not buy anything under H.. Just personal preference

Thanks to everyone...

I think using a rock is fine. I did a poll a little while ago on how PS girls like to get proposed to. The overwhelming majority liked being very involved in the ering design process.

Of the remainder that were surprised, around half loved their surprise, half didn't. So if you know she would prefer a surprise, it is still a 50/50 chance ;)

Only a tiny minority (please bear in mind the demographics/inclinations of the average PS female, and their involvement with jewelry) wished that they were surprised instead of asked how they wanted their rings.

I would use just the stone in a nice box as a sane human being.

If she has a really good sense of humour I would use that lovely stone and a twist tie and a gob of blu-tack. But that's just me.

on the setting...

I was thinking of finding the cheapest setting via downtown LA and having it set there.. i'm not sure if it would just be cheaper than getting the setting at GOG..

the twisty tie would be interesting.. but i'm worried about losing the stone... in the process of proposing

I'm not sure if spending 7k on the HA Jubilee cut from gog is worth all the $$... JA has several nice stones with better color and clarity for 2 k less..... im just not sure... i know i have a 30 day return policy but ill lose out on the setting and cost of shipping. If the price difference was a mere hundreds i wont question the purchase but severl thousands?

Gog: 1 caret, h, si1. Jubilee cut.
JA: 1.18 caret, f, vv2, ideal cut - 2k less

I'm expecting my ring later today...

I can't hardly sleep..

I just thought it was old to get a tracking number at 6am the same day i'm suppose to receive the package..

Any word of advice on appraisal and insurance.. who and why? and then with what company?

now what??

I just picked it up but its still sealed in the fedex box...

I don't plan on proposing until early Aug...

what do i do with it... ?
Should i Call my home insurance agent?
Should i go get it appraise ?

Which stone did you end up getting?

Pictures? :naughty:

what i picked out...
