Hi-

I am new to posting here, but I''ve been reading posts for a while now. I''m really interested in the cushion cut and I''ve found the advice on this website very helpful in my search. During lunch today I went to a local jewelers and found a beautiful cushion cut diamond and I wanted to see if anyone could give me any advice on if this sounds like a great diamond. I will say that it was very stunning in person!

Cushion Cut diamond

2.02 carats

G color

SI 1 clarity

GIA Certified

Depth 66

Table 65

Polish - Very Good

Sym - Good

Flour. - none

Price - $12,600

Any comments or advice is greatly appreciated!! Thank you!

I don't know what the standards are for a cushion and I suspect there are no agreed-upon specs for ideal, but the table and depth sound pretty good in comparison with other fancy shapes.

I am not sure, but I remember reading that cushion cuts are very fiery and being one of the early sophisticated cuts, they didn't cut them to be shallow. The natural progression from the pyramidal diamond rings that were designed to look like rough, I would assume the fieriness came from their greater depth. 66% doesn't seem very deep.

But I did find a reference that states that "a variant of the brilliant cut, in an oblong or square shape with rounded corners" (P. Voillot, Diamond and Precious Stones)

That leads me to believe if it is the predecessor of the RB it would have similar demensions?

Numbers sound good. Not shallow nor overly deep.

And if you liked it, that says it all! What about the girdle? One more thing... Is it a ''square'' or rectangular cushion?

It should be nice. And the price seems in line with what PS lists for this shape and other fancies of same color, clarity and weight.

While there are no standards to convert a cushion's measurements into a prediction of light return, it would still work to use the IdealScope on it. Here's one reference (WWW ) for what the Iscope image would look like for a fine cut... if you go this route.

Oooh, you just referenced what I'm pretty sure is my diamond

I didn't realize that Jonathan had put it up there. I helped with picking out the stone, but I won't get to see the final ring until I'm officially proposed to and I don't know when that'll be, but it's still pretty exciting to see that and know that it's *my* diamond

Thank you all for your responses. The cushion diamond that i saw today was more square than rectangular. Does anyone have any suggestions for settings?
