I have read many mixed thoughts about Cushion Cuts. I have read through posts here, but get plenty of mixed signals. The consensus of some diamond experts is that these are much less desirable and have little intrinsic value (this is really noted on the DCI website). It does seem like the price point is lower on Cushions...Is this an illusion?

We are considering stones in the 2.7 to 3.2 range. Is this a bad size for cushions? Are there any issues to be wary of in this size range??

So, are these considered in a negative light among most diamond experts?

Is there a table and depth range for Cushions that would classify some ideal or desirable chracteristics?

Hi Defender. I am just a consumer myself but here is a link I found about Cushion Cuts, have you tried searching in the archives here as there have been more posts about cushions.

Another poster Diamondsbylauren has a lot of fancy cut diamonds for sale.

Why would that be a bad size for cushions? Size doesn't have a thing to do with it

but it certainly helps

....the type and cut of cushion does.
I don't care for antique looking cushions, and that inlcudes a lot of stones cut today that don't have the high degree of symmetry and the amazing cut. Get thee to some "modern cushions" and some modern style cushions. That's just one style snf the style I like and have as a matter of fact :)

GOG is a great place to look but just note that while the "modern cushion" is pictured (that's the main cushion in the pic) they don't include it in their tutorial. The GIA plot looks JUST like their square H&A cushion but it's not the same stone.

YOu can't judge a cushion on the numbers. YOu need to see the plot and see the stone. The round gem appraisers guide should be ok for square cushions and the oval guide for more rectangular cushions. But that's just a guide.

Oh yeah, the moderns are significantly more expensive than others so you'll have to decide if you like the look and if it's worth it to you...
