I have been working with a couple of different vendors on a cushion cut ring and had a couple of questions.

Is it good or bad that the GIA cert. states that "Crown angles are greater than 40 degrees". This is the first cert. that I have seen like this.

Some more details on this diamond.

Cushion Modified Brilliant
Color: G
Clarity: SI1 (diagram on GIA cert. shows it to be very eye clean)
Polish: Excellent
Symmetry: Good
Fluor: Faint
Measurements: 6.68 X 5.96 X 4.15
Table 60%
Depth: 69.6%

Any insight would be appreciated about the quality of the stone, as well as the angles comment on the cert. Also, is there anything else I can ask for from the dealer regarding the quality of the stone? I have yet to actually see the stone....I am waiting on pictures from the dealer...

Just wanted to attach a picture of the stone in question. Thanks.

crown angles > 40 degrees is not good or bad by itself. Interesting looking cushion. I like the crushed ice sides. I wonder what it looks like in real life?

The one I just bought is greater than it. Here is a pic of it

If your interested in buying a cushion, Jonathan is your go to guy. Not sure if the crushed ice look is what you want.

Here is a little bit on them

if you scroll down about half way, there is a video called understanding the appearance of cushion cuts.

You sometimes see this on fancy shape diamonds in the comments section of the report, it isn't necessarily an issue at all, go by the diamond as a whole with photos, ASET and trusted vendor input to get a proper picture.

It is a cushion shape and it is going to have the unique properties that come with the shape, but it is likely not a high performing stone in terms of measured light return. Not every diamond is a duplicate of Tolkowsky''s round design and each has its own character, pluses and minuses. You need to examine it in poerson, to know for sure. The photo is not telling enough information.
