I''ve read a few threads about cushion cuts. I am looking for a roughly 1.5 ct cushion cut that has a L/W ratio below 1.2 but other than that I am having difficulty understanding what to look for in the cut to determine if it is a good stone. Could someone help by either summarizing key paramaters to look for or giving me a couple examples of what would be considered ideal cuts? Thanks.

There is nothing that is considered an ideal cut. My own personal preferences are as follows, but please know that you really need to SEE a cushion in person to know if it''s attractive or not. I highly suggest that you use the search box and run searches on your questions, there have been TONS of threads on cushions that have great pictures and very good info.

Depth: Mid 60''s
Table: Mid 50''s
Excellent Symmetry AND Polish, at a minimum stick to VG. But Ex/Ex stones are often much nicer IMO.
Girdle: Make sure there is no crazy variation, it''s not extremely or very thin, and preferably not very thick (although this is less problematic).
Make sure it''s eyeclean, but otherwise you can go down to SI1 without a problem
Cushions show color more than rounds, so just be aware of that before you go too far down the color chart. You can safely go to G or H without problems for most people.

Those are my basic preferences, but it doesn''t mean that a stone that falls outside of those parameters won''t be gorgeous and it also doesn''t ensure that a stone that meets these parameters will be either.

Right. Since there is so much variation with a cushion, what you need to do now is go out and see various stones. When you see one you like, see if you can get the stats so you can narrow down your focus if you end up purchasing online or end up having a local jeweler bring in stones for you to chose. Even with something as seemingly standardized (heh, as if!) as a RB it''s impossible for one to know exactly what one likes without some legwork.
