Hello all!
Wanted to pick your brain regarding a couple cushion cuts my soon to be fiancé and I have been stuck over. We have been on the hunt for a cushion to be set a solitaire, with defined largeish facets. I have mostly been shown "crushed ice" appearing diamonds until these two.
Option 1: Henry Daussi 1.2 carat I/SI1 GIA certified $6,200
Option 2: a Shane Co. branded diamond 1.16 H/SI1 GSI certified $6,400

I have concerns with both. I love the larger spread the Henry has.. it sizes as large as a 1.5 due to its shallowness. I am however concerned for light performance. I forgot to take a picture of it
I am concerned about the high price tag for the smaller Shane co. Diamond given it is not GIA certified and significantly smaller spread. I love the light performance it has though. I was told it is cut on the bottom as a round to have this light performance.

Anyone have any thoughts? I have attached a picture of the

You have a pic or any data on the Shane?

Sorry for the grainy picture. It looks dirty in this, but is eyeclean and has very distinct facets. I used a link because it won't upload from my iPhone to the forum.
Excited to hear what you think Rhino, we watched your cushion cut education videos

Also, specs in the main part of my post. Any other info you would be looking for?

Probably a better picture. I was told it's a GSI ideal/ triple ex.
However I'm unsure about GSI standards.

The shane co's diamond is a hearts and arrows style cushion cut.
It appears to be a decent performer, but I still don't like the fact that it is GSI graded.
What is your budget?

Our budget is right at 6,500 for the stone. I would love something around the 1.2 range, we are bending on color since it will be set in rose gold.
It is a gorgeous preformer for sure. If it was GIA graded we would have probably picked it. The stones are from two separate stores, so I can't compare them next to eachother.

Thanks for all the input guys! Trying to talk him into buying something online is not going so well. He agreed to look at things at GOG.. as long as they can video it. I have emailed with David from GOG.
I am also talking to him about a AVC.. my dream diamond but a bit pricey.
Do you guys know if AVC's face up larger than the average cushion? That would allow us to go down on carat weight.

I'd guess it depends on the diamond. I have an unbranded modern cushion that is 0.64 and it faces up bigger than many that are 0.75.

With our budget of 6,500 for the diamond, it seems like we will be looking at a 1.05-1.1 I color, VS1-SI1. For a AVC.. while they are beautiful, can you appreciate the cuts at a smaller size? How about warmth? Do larger facets allow for viewing more warmth?

Thank you guys again!

I've seen it stated here that for setting in rose gold, you could look at going to a J with little/no effect on the face up. And from looking at too many old cuts, I'd personally happily go to a KLM range since they seem to be generally more tolerant of warmth face-up. Would that open up some more options for you?

Hi Elizabeth, congrats on your engagement. I have a 1.0 E AVC, it's a square shape as opposed to an emerald shape. I love it as it's a little headlight I wear in a rose gold chain/plat basket setting necklace-- I wanted about a 6mm size meant to fall at the base of my neck. I also have a larger N colored (which I love!) AVC in the process of being set at the moment. I've been a bad PS'er & did not do a SMTB thread on the pendant.

In essence, yes-- the larger the stone the easier it is to see the light play with those facets. However, even my small 1ct AVC is a bright headlamp of light. If I were to do the necklace all over again, I personally would not be afraid of warmth in the least, YMMV!

Thank you guys so much for the advice.. I realllly have my heart set on a AVC. Always have but didn't think I could get one in my price range. Here is a link to the video GOG sent me. The last one on the right is the one we are interested in (and the only one they have that meets our specs)

With that said, they have a shipment in the next few weeks coming in. Are all AVC's created equal? Should we wait for more to come in? I do quite like this one. But it's so hard to judge not seeing it in person.

Thanks in advance!

I believe all AVC and AVRs are cut by Yoram/@diagem and his team - @Rhino would be able to confirm.

I would definitely find out who cut the stone you are interested in. A different cutter on the bench could make a difference. The 2 I have are by Yoram, & are gorgeous. The last time I spoke with Jon (a few months ago) he mentioned he was trying out a new cutter.

Well. I'm a dummy for posting it on the World Wide Web. Apparently someone thought it was a good diamond too.. and bought it out from underneath us.

Well.. back to square one

You could offer a price for this AVC on Loupetroop? I know it's currently out of budget but they say open to offers.

Did GOG tell you someone bought it? I saw it this morning on their site (the 1.11 I that is). Sometimes their website has little glitches and stones will 'disappear' from their inventory. Email or better yet, call them and ask if you haven't already!

Yeah our salesman said someone bought it over the phone with a credit card yesterday afternoon. Right when I was waiting to receive the ASET images from him.

Aw, I'm so sorry. For future reference, you can put a stone on 'hold' by adding it to your cart. Alternatively, if you're working with someone at GOG over the phone, have them put it on hold for you so someone doesn't snap it up.

Did you not like the 1.03 I VVS2? Very similar dimensions except it's more of a square outline and the 1.11 was more rectangular. Maybe you mentioned something about that already.....

The cushion that ac117 linked to you on LT is a Canera Antique Cushion. Cut similarly to GOG's AVCs.
