Hi-

I am looking for a cushion cut diamond, but am having difficulty as I can not see one in person. I have been looking on uniondiamond and found one that I like as far as the picture goes, however it is EGL certified so I am a bit hesitant. I was hoping I could get some opinons regarding weather it sounds like a good diamond. Thanks everyone!

EGL
Weight: 1.50
Measurments: 6.70-6.70 x 4.48
Table: 64%
Depth: 66.9%
Crown Height: 9%
Pavilion Depth: 56%
Girdle: Sllightly Thick
Polish: Good to Very Good
Symmetry: Good to Very Good
Cutlet: None
Clarity: VSI
Color: H
Flouresence: None

I don''t understand what it meas when it says good to very good, rather than just one rating and was wondering if this was bad. And last but not least how do you think cushion cut stones look with pear sidestones as i have not been able to locate such a ring. Thanks!

post the picture.

Do you have a REAL picture of the diamond? Or just a "sample" picture? A real picture would help a LOT. But I would personally pass on this one. The table is HUGE. Usually you want a table in the mid 50''s and the depth in the mid 60''s. A big table can make the stone appear "glassy" and thus not as sparkly.

Not to mention the fact that a modern cushion cut stone ideally should have excellent symmetry and polish. Or at the minimum VG. I would stay away from good myself as it can really negatively affect the look of a cushion.

EGL stones can be ok, but you need to remember that the color and/or clarity grades might be off (usually appraise lower than the cert says) so personally I would pay to have the stone appraised before the return period is over to make sure you got what you paid for.

Not sure if the link will work, but here's an example of how a rectangular cushion of about 1.5ct would look in a pear-sidestone setting:

Also, the cushion you chose is square. Do you want a square or rectangular cushion? I went to Union Diamonds and searched using your criteria, and the diamond that came up didn't have a picture. It just had a stock image of a rectangular cushion. Make sure you see a picture before you buy it!

This is the only picture I have. It''s far away so i''m not sure if it would not look as good close up...

I perfer the look of the square cushions...thanks for the input!

If you like square cushions, consider the Square H&A cut from Good old Gold. They''re GIA-graded, so you can trust the gradings, and GOG comes with very high recommendations here. I like this one:

The spread is a little smaller because this stone is deeper, but I think it will look prettier.

You either need to order the diamond and plan on returning it if you don''t like it or you need more/better pictures to decide. Sorry!

That is a beautiful diamond!

That''s kind of what I was thinking....Thank you for your help!

No problem. If you haven''t decided on a vendor call Mark at Engagement Rings Direct. He''s known affectionately as the "cushion king" around here and for good reason. He''ll pick you a winner at a great price.

A better-made stone would quite a bit more crown height than 9% and a smaller table. It does have a nice outline though. An EGL H may be more like a GIA I.
